Tell us what you'd like to wear, and we'll help you find it

A short message is enough. Say what your pet was, what you'd like to keep close and what matters most, whether that's budget, skin, timing or a piece for each person in the family.

Before you write

What to include so our reply is genuinely useful

You don't need to know jewelry terms. Write it the way you'd explain it to a friend. The more of these we have, the more specific we can be:

  • Your pet. Name, species and roughly their weight, so we know how much ash there is to work with.
  • What you have. Ashes already home, ashes still at the crematory, fur you've kept, or a paw or nose print.
  • The piece. Pendant, ring, bracelet, glass, resin, diamond, or "not sure yet".
  • Skin and lifestyle. Metal allergies, whether you'd wear it swimming or at a physical job.
  • Timing. An anniversary or a date you'd like to have it by.
  • Other people. How many family members might want a matching piece.
  • Budget. Even a rough figure helps us skip options that won't suit.

If you're not sure how much ash your pet left, the ashes weight estimator gives a quick figure. Cremated remains are usually about 3-5% of body weight[1], close to the roughly 3.5% a study of 100 human cremations found in adults. By our estimate, a 12 lb cat returns about 6.7 oz[2], so there's nearly always plenty for jewelry.

What happens next

What happens after you press send

A person reads your message. We look at what you want to wear and anything you've said about budget, skin or timing, then reply by email with suitable options: the kind of piece that fits, what makers typically charge and what they'd need from you, such as a pinch of ash or a small lock of fur.

You're under no obligation to use any of it. If you'd like to go ahead with a maker, you contact them directly and agree details with them. If you have more questions after our reply, just answer the email.

Some requests take a little more digging than others. A plain silver pendant is quick to answer; a resin ring that combines two pets' fur, in a nickel-free metal, by a certain date, takes longer to match. Either way, you'll hear from us by email, and we'll tell you honestly if we couldn't find a good fit rather than sending something that doesn't suit.

Scope

What we can help with, and what we can't

We can help you choose between types of piece, understand materials and sealing, estimate how many pieces one pet can fill, and find makers who work with ash, fur or prints, including labs that grow memorial diamonds. We can also point you to cremation providers if your pet hasn't been cremated yet and you'd like a portion set aside.

We can't collect, store or mail ashes, repair a piece or open a sealed chamber. We also can't give medical advice about skin reactions; if a piece irritates your skin, take it off and speak to a doctor or pharmacist. For a sense of the whole range first, see every type of pet ash jewelry. If you'd like to see how things work where you live first, our local pages explain regional differences, and the poll results show what other readers would choose.

Your details

How we look after what you tell us

We use your details only to answer your request. We don't sell them, and we don't sign you up to newsletters unless you ask. You can ask us to delete your message at any time after we've replied. Our about page explains who reads requests and how we research the options we send.

Please don't send payment details, passwords or photos of ID; we never need them. Photos of your pet, a paw print or a design you like are welcome if they help explain what you want.

Useful things to do while you wait for our reply

Most people don't compare options before buying aftercare. In the UK, the Competition and Markets Authority's vet services investigation found 89%[3] of owners who bought a pet cremation never compared providers, and only 52%[4] recalled being told the price. Taking a day to look at a few jewelry options is worth it.

  • Check whether your pet insurance covers keepsakes. One insurer's wellness add-on has reimbursed up to $650[5] toward cremation, burial and memorial items.
  • If the ashes are still at the crematory, ask whether they can set a small portion aside for jewelry.
  • Try the jewelry ash capacity guide to see how many pieces you could fill.
  • Read our order checklist so you know what to confirm with a maker.

Questions people ask

Do I have to have the ashes already to contact you?

No. Many people write before the cremation, or while ashes are still with the provider. That's actually a good time, because a portion can be set aside for jewelry and prints or fur can still be collected. Just tell us where things stand.

Is there a charge for your help?

No, asking us for options is free. You only pay a maker or provider if you decide to buy from them, and you agree those terms with them directly. We'll always tell you what a piece typically costs so you can compare.

Can you help if I'm outside the US?

Often, yes. Many jewelry makers ship internationally, and self-fill pieces are easy to buy anywhere. Tell us your country, because rules on mailing cremated remains differ and some makers only accept ash from certain places. Prices in our replies will be in your currency where we can.

Can you tell me if a piece I've already found is any good?

We can tell you what to check. Send the link or a description and we'll point out the questions that matter: how it's sealed, what the metal and chain are made of, how much ash it holds and whether the maker returns unused ashes. We won't give it a rating.

What if I change my mind after asking?

That's completely fine. Nothing you send us commits you to anything, and there's no order to cancel because we don't sell pieces ourselves. Many people ask, read our reply, and decide to wait a few months before choosing jewelry. Grief doesn't run to a schedule, and a pinch of ash kept safely will still be there.
