Finding pet cremation jewelry where you live

Where you live changes who can fill a piece, how ashes can be mailed and what the cremation around it costs. Roughly 67%[1] of UK owners whose pet died chose cremation, so most people have ashes to work with.

Finding pet cremation jewelry where you live

Start here

Local maker, cremation provider or mail-in: which fits you

There are three routes to a piece of memorial jewelry, and your location decides which are open. A local jeweler or glass studio lets you hand over ashes in person and see samples, which helps if you're weighing up ashes in glass or resin. A cremation provider near you may offer jewelry itself or set a portion aside before returning the rest. A mail-in maker can be anywhere, and often has the widest range, but it means mailing ashes.

Many people prefer to keep ashes close, so a local option is worth checking first. Use the directory below to open your country, state or city page, where we explain what's available nearby. If there's nothing local that suits, a self-fill pendant needs no maker at all: it can arrive by mail and be filled at home.

United States

Pet ash jewelry across the US: mailing, prices and providers

The US is a big market for this: 53%[2] of households own a dog, and in a national survey of 2,043 owners 68% cremation; 32% burial[3] of dog and cat owners had made a cremation decision for at least one past pet. Most larger cities have at least one pet crematory, and many offer memorial jewelry or will portion ashes for you.

If you mail ashes to a maker, the US Postal Service is the carrier that accepts cremated remains, using Priority Mail Express and a dedicated label. Private couriers generally won't knowingly carry them. Prices for the cremation itself swing by city: private dog cremation averages about $260[4] nationally, and costs run higher in expensive metros. By our estimate, applying Seattle's pet-spending premium to that average puts private dog cremation there at ~$338[5], before any jewelry.

UK, Canada and Australia

What changes in the UK, Canada and Australia

In the UK, 62%[6] of households have a pet, and most pet cremations are arranged through the vet. That matters for jewelry: ask the vet or crematorium, before collection, whether a small amount can be set aside or whether they partner with a jeweler. Royal Mail has its own packaging rules for ashes and international mail is more restricted, so check with the maker how they want it sent.

In Canada, cremation is the norm for people too (human cremation rates stood at 62.8% US / 77.4% CA[7] in 2025, per the Cremation Association of North America), and many pet crematories sell keepsake jewelry alongside urns. In Australia, 73%[8] of households have a pet; individual pet cremation there has a median listed price of about AUD 412 median[9] for pets up to 5 kg, before any jewelry.

Checking a local option

Questions to ask a local jeweler or crematory

  • Do you work with cremated remains or fur, and have you made pieces like this before?
  • Can I hand over the ashes in person, and will you give me a receipt?
  • Will you return any ash you don't use, and how?
  • What metals do you offer that are nickel-free?
  • Can I see and approve a sample or proof before you seal it?

A local maker who says yes to all of these is often worth a slightly higher price for the peace of mind. For a fuller list, read our order checklist for cremation jewelry.

How to use this section

How our local pages help you choose

Each local page explains how cremation and memorial options tend to work in that area: whether pickup is common, what prices look like, and whether mailing a portion of ash is straightforward. We keep them honest, so they won't list businesses we haven't looked into or claim an office that doesn't exist.

Our local pages won't replace a conversation. If you'd like us to check what's available where you live, send us your town and what you'd like to wear. Before you do, the ashes sharing planner helps you work out how many pieces your family wants, so we can match the right number. You can also see what other readers have chosen on the live poll results page.

Wherever you live

Keeping most of the ashes at home, and a little close

Across countries, families usually take ashes home rather than leaving them with the provider. In the UK, 84.5%[10] of human cremated remains were taken away by families in 2024, according to the Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities, and in a summary of NFDA's 2025 consumer research, 37%[11] of Americans said they'd keep remains at home in an urn. Many pet owners feel the same pull.

Jewelry sits comfortably alongside that. The urn stays on the shelf, and a pinch travels with you. If you're not sure how the two fit together, our comparison of jewelry and an urn at home talks it through, and the complete range of pieces shows what's possible.

Questions people ask

Can I get cremation jewelry made locally instead of by mail?

Often, yes. Many pet crematories sell memorial jewelry or partner with a local jeweler, and some glass studios accept ashes in person. In smaller towns, the choice may be limited to self-fill pendants you buy online. Ask your cremation provider first, since they already hold or have just returned the ashes.

Is it legal to post pet ashes to a jewelry maker?

In the US, yes, through the Postal Service using Priority Mail Express and its cremated-remains label. Other countries have their own carrier rules, and cross-border mailing may need customs paperwork. Always check the maker's instructions, and send only the small portion they need rather than the whole container.

Can my pet's crematory set some ashes aside for jewelry?

Many can, if you ask before the ashes are sealed into an urn. Some providers will fill a pendant for you or send a small portion in a separate pouch. Ask when you arrange the cremation, and check whether there's a charge for the extra container or filling.

Do jewelry prices differ much by region?

The piece itself usually costs about the same wherever you are, because most makers sell nationally or online. What varies more is the cremation around it, local engraving or glass studio rates, and postage. In expensive cities, a local jeweler's hourly rate may push custom pieces higher than mail-in equivalents.
