Where Jakarta families get memorial jewelry made
Many Jakarta families have roots in other parts of Indonesia, and some want a pet's remains to go back to a hometown garden or be shared among relatives. If that's likely, ask whether ashes can be divided, or whether a keepsake can be made for each person. A memorial doesn't have to be permanent to matter; a planted flower or a photo can hold the memory just as well.
Memorials for pets in Jakarta reflect the city's many faiths and traditions. Some families prefer to bury a pet in a garden and mark the spot with a stone or plant; others keep ashes in a small container at home, or choose a keepsake with a little ash. Whatever feels respectful to your family is right. A paw print made before burial or cremation is a gentle keepsake either way.
Families in Jakarta are often spread across the metro and well beyond, so a lot of memorial jewelry here is ordered in sets: one pendant for each adult child, a bracelet charm for a partner, a keyring for someone who doesn't wear jewelry. If that's your plan, choose one maker for the whole set so the pieces match, agree who will do the filling and decide early whether the pieces for out-of-town relatives will be filled here and posted or sent empty with a small portion of ashes.
Jakarta's population is around 10,560,000.

What local customs mean for a memorial piece
Without a local cremation figure for Indonesia, it's hard to say how common ashes jewelry is in Jakarta. In most countries we cover, though, pet cremation is growing and memorial pieces are growing with it. Start with the crematory or vet that handled your pet; they'll know whether a local jeweler fills pendants or whether mail-in makers are the usual route.
Timing fittings and ceremonies around Jakarta's weather
Without local climate figures for Jakarta, one tip covers every season: photograph your piece and its engraving the day it arrives, front and back, in good light. If it's ever damaged or lost, a clear photo helps a jeweler repair or remake it faithfully, and it helps with an insurance claim too.

Prices by metal, glass and diamond
In many Asian cities, pet funeral providers sell keepsake pendants as part of a package, and prices vary widely. As a reference, a sterling silver ash necklace at one US retailer costs $88–$298[2], and a UK glass ash pendant costs £170[5]. If you're in Jakarta and considering a diamond, one Swiss lab lists pet stones at $1,400–$40,500[6].

Wearing ashes is your call; the rest has rules in Indonesia
One practical point matters before any jewelry decision: the cremation has to be individual if you want ashes back, since communal cremations don't return them. After that, Indonesia leaves the ashes largely to you. What follows summarizes local scattering and burial points, useful because most of the ashes will still need a home once a pendant is filled.
A calm plan for getting the piece made
- Use a vet where it happened. A local clinic can arrange cremation with a nearby crematory and explain how the ashes can reach you.
- Ask how the ashes will travel home. Usually it's one of three: a tracked parcel, a friend picking them up, or you bringing them back in person; postal rules differ from country to country.
- Keep the cremation certificate with the container. Border and airport staff may want to see it, and certain jewelry makers will ask for it too.
- Leave the container closed until you're home. Taking out a portion for jewelry can wait for a calm moment in your own kitchen.
- Pick a maker close to home, so a portion can be handed over in Jakarta instead of being posted a second time.
- Read up before you fly with ashes. Questions about carry-on bags and security screening are answered in our guide to traveling with ashes.
Remembering your pet, in Jakarta and beyond
Space is tight in Jakarta apartments, so a memorial often needs to be small: a photo and a little container on a shelf, a piece of jewelry, a framed paw print. Families in houses with gardens might plant a tree or bury a biodegradable urn. If you plan to scatter ashes by the sea or in the hills toward Bogor, check with the landowner or local rules first.

Questions people ask
Should I buy memorial jewelry locally in Jakarta or online?
Buy locally if you want to hand ashes over in person, try on samples or get a ring sized properly. Buy online if you want a specific design, a paw print engraving or glass and resin work that local shops don't offer. Many Jakarta owners do both: order online, then have a local jeweler fill it or check the seal.
How much ash goes into a pendant?
Very little. A typical ashes pendant holds only a pinch, about a teaspoon at most[3], and ash-in-glass pieces use only about 1/8–1/2 tsp[8] of ashes (per one urn retailer's guide). That means even a small cat leaves enough for several pieces with plenty left for an urn. Our jewelry ash capacity guide shows how many pieces one pet can fill.
Can I wear ash jewelry through airport security?
Generally yes. A sealed pendant or ring is treated like any other jewelry and usually doesn't need declaring. If you're carrying a separate portion of loose ashes to a maker or a relative, keep it in a screen-friendly container in your carry-on and bring the cremation certificate. Rules vary by airline and country, so check before you fly.
How soon after cremation can I get a pendant filled in Jakarta?
As soon as the ashes are home, which by our estimate is typically 3 to 14 days after cremation[9]. A ready-made pendant can be filled by a local jeweler that same afternoon. There's no need to hurry, though. Many people wait weeks or months, and the ashes don't change while they wait.
Can I use my pet's fur instead of ashes?
Yes. Fur can't go into molten glass, but it sets well in resin, where you can still see its color. Some memorial-diamond labs can also work from fur; one Swiss lab needs about 5 g[10]. Fur has to be clipped before cremation, so if your pet is still with you, it's worth taking a little from a hidden spot now.
How much does pet cremation jewelry cost in Jakarta?
We haven't found reliable published prices from local makers, so we use the clearest overseas ones as a guide: US steel pendants start from $19.95[1], a UK glass ash pendant costs £170[5], and a Swiss lab lists memorial diamonds at $1,400–$40,500[6]. Local jewelers and crematories in Jakarta will price in their own currency, so ask for a written total including shipping.
