Louisville, Colorado
Local maker or mail-in: the Louisville picture
Louisville's older houses near Main Street sit on narrow lots, while newer subdivisions have more garden space, so the right memorial depends partly on your address. A small stone can nestle into a flower bed; a keepsake or framed print suits a compact home or condo. Many houses rebuilt after the fire have fresh landscaping, and some families have planned a planting in a pet's memory into that new garden.
Environmental values run strong in this corner of Boulder County, and many families look for memorials with a light footprint: a biodegradable urn, a garden planting, recycled metal, or one keepsake made to last a lifetime instead of several smaller items. Scattering on city or county open space is governed by that land manager's policies, so ask them beforehand, or hold the ceremony on private property with the owner's blessing.
Self-fill kits are popular in towns like Louisville partly because they're private. Nobody else handles the ashes, and you choose the moment: a quiet evening, a sunny morning, the day before an anniversary. If your hands aren't steady, ask someone in the family to hold the pendant still while you pour.
Louisville's population is around 20,581, the 31st-largest of the 36 Colorado communities we cover. Denver, roughly 18 miles off, is the closest larger centre, and a share of the providers who cover Louisville run from there.
Louisville sits within easy reach of Lafayette (3 miles), Broomfield (5 miles, a larger centre) and Erie (7 miles). A provider based in any of them will usually collect from Louisville; ask what the mileage adds to the bill.
Our estimate
7,550
Estimated dog- or cat-owning households in Louisville
How we calculated this
20,581 ÷ 2.5 = 8,232 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 7,550. Multi-pet homes count once.
Our estimate
630
dog and cat deaths per year in Louisville, our estimate
How we calculated this
7,550 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 630 a year. A floor, not a ceiling.

Why ashes jewelry is familiar (or new) in Colorado
Cremation covers about 77.4%[5] of human deaths in Colorado, and pet owners lean the same way: in a published survey of 2,043 US dog and cat owners, 68%[6] had chosen cremation for at least one past pet. So ashes come home to many households, and a pendant is one small, portable use for a portion of them.
We take the Colorado rate from NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). It is a human statistic; there is no equivalent pet figure for Louisville, and we would rather show a real number than invent one.
Wearing ash jewelry through Louisville's seasons
If you're mailing ashes to a maker from Louisville in winter, snow and ice can slow deliveries by a day or two. The ashes aren't affected by cold, but tracking matters more when parcels sit in depots. Send early in the week, choose a service with tracking and a signature, and ask the maker to confirm by email the day it arrives.
Winter in Louisville is hard on glass in one specific way: sudden temperature change. A glass pendant that's been out in the cold and then goes straight under a hot shower can, in rare cases, crack. Let it warm up to room temperature first. The bigger risk is a fall on ice, so if you're heading out on a slippery morning, tuck the pendant under a layer rather than letting it swing.

What you'll likely pay, from steel to diamond
Memorial diamonds have the widest price range of anything on this page. Some labs advertise stones for as little as $750–$995[7], while a larger lab charges $3,499[8] for 0.25 carat and $15,000 for a full carat[9], roughly $14,000 to $15,000 per carat at any size[10]. For most Louisville families, a silver or glass piece does the same emotional job for a fraction of that.

Local rules worth knowing before you order
Wearing ashes is a private choice, and Colorado asks for no permit or form to keep a portion in a pendant or ring. The questions that do carry rules come afterwards: where the remaining ashes may be scattered or buried, and how a portion may travel if your maker is elsewhere. Below is the Colorado side; a postal carrier's own conditions sit alongside it.
The official Colorado local government directory lists every county and city office, which is the quickest way to find who to ask in Louisville.
We keep Colorado's burial and scattering rules in one place: the Colorado rules summary. Before a home burial in Louisville, also ask the city whether local ordinances add anything.
A calm plan for getting the piece made
- Look at the ashes you have. They're usually coarse and grainy; a small sieve or a gentle crush with the back of a spoon makes filling easier for tiny chambers.
- Buy or commission the piece. Self-fill pendants arrive in days; glass, resin and rings take weeks; diamonds take months.
- Fill at a calm moment. A clear table, a sheet of paper, the funnel from the kit and no fan or open window.
- Seal the screw. Use the adhesive supplied, wipe any excess and leave it to cure before wearing.
- Tell the people who'll wear the others. Relatives living elsewhere can have theirs posted with tracking, along with a few lines on how to look after it.
- Keep the rest of the ashes safe. Urn, scattering or burial is a decision for another day.
Remembering your pet, in Louisville and beyond
Louisville gets bright sun at well over 5,000 feet, sudden spring snow and summer hail, so outdoor memorials take a beating. Engraved granite and bronze last; untreated wood and painted finishes do not. For a tree or shrub memorial, native plants that tolerate dry summers thrive, and planting in spring or early fall gives roots time before extreme heat or cold sets in.

Questions people ask
Is Louisville big enough to have several pet aftercare providers?
Probably, on the numbers. By our estimate about 7,550 Louisville households keep a dog or cat and around 630 lose one each year, which is enough steady demand to support more than one provider. We derive that from population (about 20,581), household size and national ownership and lifespan figures.
Which nearby towns can I compare with Louisville?
The closest communities we cover are Lafayette (about 3 miles), Broomfield (about 5 miles) and Erie (about 7 miles). Providers based in those places often serve Louisville too. Ask each one for a written total that includes collection, so the distance is priced in.
Where are the providers that serve Louisville actually based?
Some are local, and some run from Denver, about 18 miles away. That is normal for a town this size. What matters is the collection time they quote for Louisville and whether the drive is priced into the total, so ask both up front.
How do Colorado attitudes to cremation compare?
NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) puts the Colorado human cremation rate at about 77.4%[5]. We show it on the Louisville page because pet aftercare choices tend to track it: where cremation is normal for people, communal and private pet cremation are both easy to find.
Can one pendant hold ashes from two pets?
Yes. Many chambers take a pinch from each, and some makers offer double-chambered pieces or two glass beads on one chain. Only mix the portions if you're sure, because once sealed they can't be separated. The capacity guide helps you check a chamber is big enough for both, and keeping a little of each pet apart in the urn leaves options open.
How many pet owners in Louisville might want a keepsake?
By our estimate, roughly 630 dogs and cats die in Louisville each year, out of about 7,550 households that have one. One market study found 51%[12] of pet owners are interested in personalized memorials. That's a lot of families thinking about how to keep a pet close, and jewelry is one of the most portable ways.
