Keeping your pet close in Conway: pendants, rings and glass
Conway has an estimated 4,800 dog- or cat-owning households. When one of those pets dies, a pendant, ring or glass bead lets the whole family carry a pinch of ashes. This is the plain guide to doing it well.

Finding pet cremation jewelry in Conway
Some Conway families choose to scatter a portion of ashes on the lake from a boat, at a quiet time of day. Check for any local rules before doing so, and keep a portion back for the home or for relatives who may want a keepsake. Cremation is the majority choice statewide, so shared keepsakes raise no eyebrows among neighbors here.
Lakeside humidity, summer storms and bright sun can shorten the life of outdoor memorials. Anything left by the water should be heavy, such as granite, concrete or glazed stoneware, and sited above the high-water line after a wet summer. For a tree urn on the shoreline, a native that tolerates damp roots, like a bald cypress or sweetbay magnolia, suits the shore.
Living in or near Conway often means mail-in makers are the practical choice for anything custom: glass beads, rings, paw print engraving or a memorial diamond. Before you send anything, ask the maker exactly how to pack the ashes, which service to use and how they'll confirm arrival. A good maker will send written instructions and often a prepaid kit.

Our estimate
4,800
Estimated dog- or cat-owning households in Conway
How we calculated this
13,000 ÷ 2.5 = 5,200 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 4,800. Homes are counted once however many pets they keep.

Cremation in Florida and wearing a little of your pet
About 72.5%[5] of people in Florida are cremated, so most families here have already met ashes jewelry through a relative, a friend or a funeral home display. That makes a pet pendant feel ordinary rather than strange, and it means local jewelers are more likely to have filled one before. Ask them; you may find the same pieces sold for people are sold for pets, just with a paw print or a different engraving.
We take the Florida rate from NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). It is a human statistic; there is no equivalent pet figure for Conway, and we would rather show a real number than invent one.
Wearing ash jewelry through Conway's seasons
Sweat is the quiet enemy of a screw-top pendant. In the hotter months in Conway, especially May, June, July, August and September, salt and moisture on skin can work their way into the thread over time. Make sure the screw is sealed with the adhesive supplied, wipe the pendant with a soft dry cloth after a hot day and check the closure every few weeks. It's a two-second habit that avoids a lost pinch of ashes.
In Conway's hottest stretch, when July averages about 92°F, people wear lighter clothes and the pendant rests on bare skin. That collects more moisture than a piece under a shirt, so a smooth-backed design without crevices is easier to keep clean. Titanium and glass cope with sweat better than plated brass.

Prices by metal, glass and diamond
Most pet cremation jewelry in the US costs $30–$300+[6] (per one large retailer), and the table below shows where each material sits. Memorial diamonds are in a different league: a quarter-carat stone is listed at $3,499[7] by one of the larger US labs, about 27 times a typical sterling pendant[8]. If you're in Conway and weighing a diamond against a set of silver pieces for the whole family, that ratio is worth keeping in mind.

Rules for keeping, sharing and mailing ashes in Florida
You don't need anyone's permission to wear your pet's ashes. The rules that matter for jewelry are about moving ashes: postal services set their own conditions for mailing them, and airlines and borders sometimes ask questions. The notes below cover what Florida says about burial and scattering, which is useful for the ashes left over once the pendants are filled.

What to do first, and what can wait
- Use a vet where it happened. A clinic on the spot can book cremation at a crematory close by and talk you through the ways the ashes can get back to you.
- Ask how the ashes will travel home. Tracked delivery, collection by a friend or carrying them yourself are the usual choices; each country's post sets its own conditions.
- Keep the cremation certificate with the container. Border and airport staff may want to see it, and certain jewelry makers will ask for it too.
- Leave the container closed until you're home. Taking out a portion for jewelry can wait for a calm moment in your own kitchen.
- Pick a maker close to home, so a portion can be handed over in Conway instead of being posted a second time.
- Read up before you fly with ashes. Our guide to traveling with ashes covers carry-on and security questions.
Sharing the memory with family
Life in Conway centers on the lakes, and memorials here often face the water. A granite marker set beside a dock post, a planter on the boathouse deck, or a small bench looking across the chain all suit the setting. Indoors, many families choose an urn in wood or ceramic for a room with a lake view, where the animal used to lie in the afternoon sun.

Questions people ask
Is Conway big enough to have several pet aftercare providers?
Probably, on the numbers. By our estimate about 4,800 Conway households keep a dog or cat and around 400 lose one each year, which is enough steady demand to support more than one provider. We derive that from population (about 13,000), household size and national ownership and lifespan figures.
Will I have to travel to Orlando to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Orlando (roughly 5 miles from Conway) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Conway?
Usually yes. Belle Isle is about 2 miles away, Edgewood is about 2 miles away and Pine Castle is about 3 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
How does Conway's weather affect pet aftercare?
July is the hottest month in Conway, with average highs around 92°F, so prompt collection matters most then. Winters are mild, with average lows staying above freezing, so outdoor burial or scattering is usually possible year round.
How much of my pet's ashes does a diamond need?
Far more than a pendant. One US lab asks for about 100 g of ashes, roughly half a cup[10], and a Swiss lab needs at least 150 g of ashes or 5 g of fur[11]. Cremated remains contain very little carbon, which is why labs need so much. Ask whether unused ash is returned before you send anything.
Do cremation pendants leak?
A well-made pendant with a sealed screw shouldn't. Leaks usually happen when the screw isn't glued and works loose with daily wear. Use the adhesive in the kit, or ask a Conway jeweler to seal it permanently. Glass and memorial diamonds have no opening at all, so they can't leak.
