Lake Mary, Florida
Local maker or mail-in: the Lake Mary picture
Many Lake Mary households moved here for work and have family spread across the country. Keepsake urns, pendants and small prints of paw impressions can be shared with relatives who never lived nearby. Before ordering, find out roughly what volume of ash will come back; a cat returns far less than a large animal, and that figure decides whether four pendants and two vials are realistic or whether a single shared urn makes more sense.
Lake Mary homes tend to be modern and well-maintained, and many families prefer memorials that fit a clean interior: a sleek ceramic urn, a framed print of a paw or hoof, or a small glass keepsake. Families who want an outdoor marker often find that a flush-set stone among the flower beds tends to satisfy association architectural committees more easily than anything upright.
Families in Lake Mary often find the vet clinic is the most helpful local resource. Staff there have guided many owners through this and may know which crematory returns ashes promptly, which sells pendants and which will post a small portion straight to a jewelry maker so you don't have to handle it. Ask at the desk; it's a common question.
Lake Mary is home to about 16,789 people, the 137th-largest of the 235 Florida communities we cover. Some of the providers who serve Lake Mary are based about 16 miles away in Orlando, the nearest larger centre, so collection times reflect that drive.
For a second opinion on price, Sanford (3 miles, a larger centre), Longwood (4 miles) and Winter Springs (4 miles, a larger centre) are close enough that their providers cover Lake Mary routinely. Two written quotes tell you more than any price list.
Our estimate
6,200
Estimated dog- or cat-owning households in Lake Mary
How we calculated this
16,789 ÷ 2.5 = 6,716 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 6,200. Homes are counted once however many pets they keep.

What local customs mean for a memorial piece
Cremation is the norm in Florida, at about 72.5%[5] of people. Where it's this common, people often keep a small share of ashes and pass the rest on, to be scattered, buried or kept by another relative. Jewelry fits neatly into that habit. Many families here plan the split from the start: a pinch for each pendant, a little for scattering and the rest in the urn.
The Florida percentage above is from NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) and refers to human funerals. Treat it as context for Lake Mary, not as a count of pets.
Timing fittings and ceremonies around Lake Mary's weather
In Lake Mary's hottest stretch, when July averages about 92°F, people wear lighter clothes and the pendant rests on bare skin. That collects more moisture than a piece under a shirt, so a smooth-backed design without crevices is easier to keep clean. Titanium and glass cope with sweat better than plated brass.
Sweat is the quiet enemy of a screw-top pendant. In the hotter months in Lake Mary, especially May, June, July, August and September, salt and moisture on skin can work their way into the thread over time. Make sure the screw is sealed with the adhesive supplied, wipe the pendant with a soft dry cloth after a hot day and check the closure every few weeks. It's a two-second habit that avoids a lost pinch of ashes.

Prices by metal, glass and diamond
Most pet cremation jewelry in the US costs $30–$300+[6] (per one large retailer), and the table below shows where each material sits. Memorial diamonds are in a different league: a quarter-carat stone is listed at $3,499[7] by one of the larger US labs, about 27 times a typical sterling pendant[8]. If you're in Lake Mary and weighing a diamond against a set of silver pieces for the whole family, that ratio is worth keeping in mind.

Mailing, dividing and scattering: the rules in Florida
Wearing ashes is a private choice, and Florida asks for no permit or form to keep a portion in a pendant or ring. The questions that do carry rules come afterwards: where the remaining ashes may be scattered or buried, and how a portion may travel if your maker is elsewhere. Below is the Florida side; a postal carrier's own conditions sit alongside it.

The Florida page sets out who oversees pet cremation and what the state says about burial and scattering. Lake Mary's own bylaws can sit on top of that, so ask before you dig.
Your order, one step at a time
- Call your vet or an aftercare provider first. They'll explain how and when your pet is collected; jewelry is a question for later.
- If you can, keep a lock of fur. A resin piece needs only a small cutting, taken beneath the chin or from the ruff before your pet is collected and tucked into a paper envelope.
- Press a paw into something soft such as modelling clay, or use washable ink, if either is nearby. If that feels beyond you right now, leave it; the vet or crematory can often take one instead.
- Say when you book that you want ashes back, and ask for a little to be bagged apart for jewelry.
- Give yourself a few weeks. Shock makes choices harder, and a pendant chosen a month later means every bit as much.
- When you're ready, compare two routes: having a Lake Mary jeweler fill a piece the same day, or commissioning a custom design from a specialist studio.
Small rituals that go with a memorial piece
The rainy season, from about June to September, brings heavy downpours and humidity that can mark wood and metal. Stone, porcelain and sealed glass hold up well if a memorial will sit on a screened porch or lanai. If you choose a tree urn, plant it at the start of the rains so the tree establishes before the drier months arrive.

Questions people ask
How does Lake Mary's weather affect pet aftercare?
July is the hottest month in Lake Mary, with average highs around 92°F, so prompt collection matters most then. Winters are mild, with average lows staying above freezing, so outdoor burial or scattering is usually possible year round.
Roughly how many pets die in Lake Mary each year?
Our estimate is around 510. It comes from Lake Mary's population (about 16,789), the average household size, the share of homes with a dog or cat (about 6,200 households here) and the average lifespan. It is arithmetic, not a count, so read it as a rough floor.
Will I have to travel to Orlando to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Orlando (roughly 16 miles from Lake Mary) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Is cremation common in Florida?
For people, yes: about 72.5%[5] of Florida deaths end in cremation, according to NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Lake Mary follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
Is cremation jewelry safe for children to wear?
For younger children, a piece with a sealed chamber and a breakaway cord is safer than a long chain, and a glass bead or a charm kept in a special box may be better still. Older children often love wearing a small pendant. Whatever you choose, make sure the screw is sealed with adhesive.
Do cremation pendants leak?
A well-made pendant with a sealed screw shouldn't. Leaks usually happen when the screw isn't glued and works loose with daily wear. Use the adhesive in the kit, or ask a Lake Mary jeweler to seal it permanently. Glass and memorial diamonds have no opening at all, so they can't leak.
