The Villages, Florida
Jewelers, glass artists and online makers near The Villages
Many residents of The Villages have children and grandchildren spread across several states. Tiny keepsake urns, rings or lockets allow each branch of the family to hold a little of the ashes while the main urn stays in Florida. If you would like your pet's remains to be buried with you one day, put that in writing for your family and whoever will handle your own arrangements.
In The Villages, memorials often need to suit a tidy villa and deed-restricted yard. Indoors, an engraved urn or a shadow box with a collar and photo fits a small room. Outdoors, a small stone in a flower bed may be allowed, but check your village's rules before placing anything permanent. Ask makers for size, price and delivery date before paying.
Getting to a jeweler for ring sizing can mean a drive from The Villages to a larger centre such as Orlando. If you're ordering a ring by mail, ask the maker for a ring sizer, measure at the end of the day when your fingers are slightly larger and check it twice. Sealed rings are hard to resize, so it's worth getting this right first time.
The Villages's population is around 79,000, the 40th-largest of the 235 Florida communities we cover. The nearest larger centre is Orlando, about 45 miles (72 km) away, which is where some providers serving The Villages are based.
Our pages for Lady Lake (3 miles), Fruitland Park (6 miles) and Wildwood (9 miles) describe the same choices from those towns' point of view, and the providers overlap, so a quote from one often covers The Villages as well.

Local attitudes to keeping ashes close
About 72.5%[5] of people in Florida are cremated, so most families here have already met ashes jewelry through a relative, a friend or a funeral home display. That makes a pet pendant feel ordinary rather than strange, and it means local jewelers are more likely to have filled one before. Ask them; you may find the same pieces sold for people are sold for pets, just with a paw print or a different engraving.
That Florida rate is a human one, published by NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). We quote it for The Villages only as a pointer to how families here already think about cremation.
Seasons, sweat and cold: jewelry care in The Villages
In The Villages's hottest stretch, when July averages about 92°F, people wear lighter clothes and the pendant rests on bare skin. That collects more moisture than a piece under a shirt, so a smooth-backed design without crevices is easier to keep clean. Titanium and glass cope with sweat better than plated brass.
Swimming season in The Villages is long, and the one habit worth building is taking a filled pendant off before the pool or the beach. Chlorine is hard on sterling silver and plated finishes, salt water gets into threads, and sunscreen builds up in engraving. Fused glass and memorial diamonds are fine in water, but the chain and the clasp may not be. Rinse in fresh water and dry fully when you get home.

Memorial jewelry prices The Villages buyers can check
The typical sterling silver pet cremation pendant costs about $190[6], based on the middle of three sellers' price points, while fused glass beads with ash list around $245[7] at one US provider. Ask any The Villages maker what's included: filling, sealing, the chain, engraving and return postage are sometimes separate lines that add up quickly.

Before you divide the ashes: Florida basics
Before you split the ashes, it helps to know what you'll do with the part that won't go into jewelry, because that's where Florida's rules come in. Scattering on land you don't own, burying in a shared garden and releasing ashes into water can each carry conditions. The piece you wear carries none.

A calm plan for getting the piece made
- List everyone who might want something, and don't forget those who were close to your pet but haven't said anything.
- Ask each person three things: necklace, ring or keyring; which metal they wear comfortably; and whether they'd like ashes, fur or only a print.
- Work out how far the ashes go. The sharing planner shows the split once the pieces are counted.
- Order the set from one maker to keep the finish, the chains and the engraving consistent, and check if there's a different price for a set.
- Fill every piece in one sitting, opening the urn once and closing it properly afterwards.
- Post far-away pieces with tracking, each in a small box with a care card and a short note.
Sharing the memory with family
The lakes, preserves and town squares of The Villages are part of how residents spend their days, and some families mark a pet's life with an evening visit to a favorite spot. Scattering ashes on community property or in lakes may not be allowed, so ask first. A biodegradable urn placed in a potted plant on the lanai can keep the memory near you.

Questions people ask
How does The Villages's weather affect pet aftercare?
July is the hottest month in The Villages, with average highs around 92°F, so prompt collection matters most then. Winters are mild, with average lows staying above freezing, so outdoor burial or scattering is usually possible year round.
Will I have to travel to Orlando to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Orlando (roughly 45 miles from The Villages) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Is cremation common in Florida?
For people, yes: about 72.5%[5] of Florida deaths end in cremation, according to NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in The Villages follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from The Villages?
Usually yes. Lady Lake is about 3 miles away, Fruitland Park is about 6 miles away and Wildwood is about 9 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
What if my memorial pendant breaks or I lose it?
If it breaks, stop wearing it and put it in a small sealed bag straight away so no ash is lost. A jeweler can often replace a bail or clasp without opening the chamber. For peace of mind, keep a little spare ash in the urn so a replacement can be filled, and ask whether your home insurance covers jewelry.
What metal should I choose if I have sensitive skin?
Titanium, niobium, platinum and nickel-free gold are the safest choices. Solid sterling silver suits most people but tarnishes. Surgical stainless steel is tough and inexpensive but contains some nickel, so very sensitive skin may react. If you can, try a sample from a The Villages jeweler for a few hours before ordering a sealed piece.
