North Las Vegas, Nevada

Many people in the Las Vegas area moved here from other states, and some want part of a pet's ashes to go back to a hometown or family land. A private cremation with ashes returned makes that possible. Ask for the ashes to be divided into a main urn and smaller keepsakes, so everyone who loved your pet can have a part, wherever they live.

In North Las Vegas, outdoor memorials have to stand up to intense sun and summer heat that fade and warp many materials. Granite, stainless steel and bronze last well, while painted wood, printed photos and cheap resin break down quickly. Placing a stone in the shade of a wall or tree, or keeping the memorial indoors, will keep it looking good for longer.

If you want your pet's paw or nose print engraved on a pendant, you'll need a clean ink print or a sharp photo, and North Las Vegas's vets or crematory may have taken one already. Ask before you order anything. A laser engraver in town can sometimes work from that image directly, which avoids mailing anything and lets you approve the proof in person.

With roughly 296,653 residents, North Las Vegas is the 3rd-largest of the 11 Nevada communities we cover. The nearest larger centre is Las Vegas, about 9 miles (14 km) away, which is where some providers serving North Las Vegas are based.

Our estimate

110,000

How many dog- or cat-owning households North Las Vegas has (estimate)

How we calculated this

296,653 ÷ 2.5 = 118,661 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 110,000. A household with several pets counts once.

Our estimate

9,100

North Las Vegas families who lose a dog or cat each year (estimate)

How we calculated this

110,000 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 9,100 a year. The real figure is unlikely to be lower.

53%[1]

53% of US households own a dog, which is about 71 million households.

12.69 years[2]

US dogs have an average life expectancy at birth of 12.69 years.

39%[3]

39% of US households own a cat, which is about 53 million households.

11.18 years[4]

US cats seen at Banfield hospitals have an average life expectancy at birth of 11.18 years.

Cremation habits in Nevada

With about 80.7%[5] of people in Nevada choosing cremation, the local market for memorial products is well developed, and that includes jewelry. You'll likely find crematories and funeral suppliers with a range of pendants and rings, sometimes the very same designs they offer for people. Use that familiarity: staff can usually tell you which closures hold up and which come back loose.

That Nevada rate is a human one, published by Direct Cremate (citing CANA) (2024). We quote it for North Las Vegas only as a pointer to how families here already think about cremation.

Heat, humidity and cold: caring for your piece in North Las Vegas

If you're mailing ashes or a filled piece from North Las Vegas in July, heat isn't a risk to the ashes themselves, which are stable mineral, but it can matter for resin pieces coming back. Ask the maker to ship early in the week so the parcel doesn't sit in a hot depot over a weekend, and have it delivered somewhere shaded or to a pickup point rather than left on the doorstep.

Heat is one reason some North Las Vegas families fill jewelry straight away but hold an outdoor scattering or tree planting for a cooler month. If older relatives will be there, an early morning outside May, June, July, August and September is kinder. Wearing the new pendant at that gathering ties the two memorials together.

Prices by metal, glass and diamond

Memorial diamonds have the widest price range of anything on this page. Some labs advertise stones for as little as $750–$995[6], while a larger lab charges $3,499[7] for 0.25 carat and $15,000 for a full carat[8], roughly $14,000 to $15,000 per carat at any size[9]. For most North Las Vegas families, a silver or glass piece does the same emotional job for a fraction of that.

The full price table by product is on our Nevada page, and the services page explains what each option includes.

Before you divide the ashes: Nevada basics

If you rent or share a building in Nevada, a pendant raises no issues at all, but burying the rest of the ashes in a shared garden might. Landlords, homeowners' associations and park authorities can set conditions of their own. The notes below give Nevada's general position; check with whoever controls the land before scattering or burying what's left.

The official Nevada local government directory lists every county and city office, which is the quickest way to find who to ask in North Las Vegas.

Start with the Nevada rules, which cover burial, scattering and oversight for the whole state, and treat North Las Vegas's local ordinances as a possible extra layer.

Your order, one step at a time

  1. Call the crematory or your vet and ask whether they sell jewelry, can portion ashes for it or know a local jeweler who fills pendants.
  2. Compare two or three options near North Las Vegas: a jeweler in town, the crematory's own counter, and an online studio that specializes in ash pieces.
  3. Check allergies and sizing with each person who'll receive one.
  4. Decide on engraving. Name, dates, a paw print or nothing at all; approve the wording and proof in writing.
  5. Arrange the ashes. Hand them over in person, fill them yourself or send them by a tracked, signed service the maker approves.
  6. Wear it and check it. Look at the seal and clasp every few weeks, and take it off to swim or garden.
  7. Store it safely at night in a soft pouch, somewhere it won't meet perfume, heat or a hard knock.

Beyond the pendant: keeping your pet close

With small desert-landscaped yards and hard caliche soil, many families here choose memorials that don't need digging: an urn on a shelf, a keepsake pendant or ring with a little of the ashes, or a framed paw print. If you'd like to plant something, a desert-adapted tree or shrub in a large pot or raised bed is more practical than in-ground planting.

Questions people ask

Where are the providers that serve North Las Vegas actually based?

Some are local, and some run from Las Vegas, about 9 miles away. That is normal for a city this size. What matters is the collection time they quote for North Las Vegas and whether the drive is priced into the total, so ask both up front.

How does North Las Vegas's weather affect pet aftercare?

July is the hottest month in North Las Vegas, with average highs around 105°F, so prompt collection matters most then. Winters are mild, with average lows staying above freezing, so outdoor burial or scattering is usually possible year round.

Why does the North Las Vegas page quote a human cremation rate?

Because it is the best local signal we have. Direct Cremate (citing CANA) (2024) reports about 80.7%[5] of Nevada residents are cremated. There is no official pet equivalent, and inventing one would be worse than quoting a real, clearly labelled number.

Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from North Las Vegas?

Usually yes. Las Vegas is about 9 miles away, Summerlin is about 14 miles away and Henderson is about 18 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.

Can I wear cremation jewelry in the shower?

Better not, for most pieces. Hot water, soap and shampoo can weaken adhesive over time and leave a film in engraving. Solid glass and memorial diamonds cope, but clasps and chains still wear. Take the piece off, put it in the same small dish every time and put it back on once you're dry, so it never gets left on a basin edge.

Can one pendant hold ashes from two pets?

Yes. Many chambers take a pinch from each, and some makers offer double-chambered pieces or two glass beads on one chain. Only mix the portions if you're sure, because once sealed they can't be separated. The capacity guide helps you check a chamber is big enough for both, and keeping a little of each pet apart in the urn leaves options open.
