Who fills and seals ash jewelry around Passaic
In a Passaic apartment, a memorial may be as modest as a little urn on the television stand, a collar hung from a frame, or a tiny charm clipped to a bracelet. Households where three generations share the rooms sometimes choose one keepsake for everyone. There is no hurry; the crematory's box holds up well during the weeks you spend deciding together.
For renters who may move, portable remembrances work well: jewelry, a small urn, a printed photo book. Those with a strip of yard can seat a small granite block on gravel, which holds up to the region's humid summers and frosty snaps. Dividing the ashes also lets relatives in other cities, or in another country, keep a small share of their own.
In a smaller place like Passaic, there may not be a jeweler who handles cremation pieces, and that's normal. Most families here buy a self-fill pendant by mail, fill it at home with the small funnel it comes with and seal the screw with the adhesive in the kit. It takes ten quiet minutes. If you'd rather not do it yourself, a jeweler in a larger centre such as Newark may fill it for you.
About 71,337 people live in Passaic, which makes it the 10th-largest of the 58 New Jersey communities we cover. The nearest larger centre is Newark, about 9 miles (14 km) away, which is where some providers serving Passaic are based.
For a second opinion on price, Clifton (2 miles), Garfield (2 miles) and Lodi (3 miles) are close enough that their providers cover Passaic routinely. Two written quotes tell you more than any price list.
Our estimate
26,500
How many dog- or cat-owning households Passaic has (estimate)
How we calculated this
71,337 ÷ 2.5 = 28,535 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 26,500. A household with several pets counts once.
Our estimate
2,200
dog and cat deaths per year in Passaic, our estimate
How we calculated this
26,500 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 2,200 a year. Treat it as a minimum.

What local customs mean for a memorial piece
Cremation is now the majority choice for people in New Jersey, at about 56.5%[5], and pet cremation has followed along. Memorial jewelry is widely available here, though not every local jeweler has filled a cremation pendant. If the first shop hesitates, try one that does repairs or engraving, or a pet crematory that sells pieces at the counter.
For the New Jersey figure we rely on NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). Read it as a picture of local custom around death and remembrance in Passaic rather than as pet data.
Seasons, sweat and cold: jewelry care in Passaic
A mild climate like Passaic's means ring sizes stay fairly steady through the year, which is good news if you're ordering a sealed ring with ashes. Still, measure at the end of the day when your fingers are at their largest. Sealed rings are hard to resize, and a comfort-fit band gives a bit of leeway.
A mild, often damp climate like Passaic's is easy on resin but less forgiving of thin plating, which can wear through at the edges after a year or two of daily wear. For a piece you'll never take off, solid sterling, gold or titanium outlasts gold-plated brass, even though it costs more at the start.

What pet cremation jewelry costs for Passaic families
If a paw print matters more to you than ashes, a custom sterling silver charm made from your pet's actual print costs $143 + chain[6], and paw and nose print pendants at one large retailer start from $99.95[7]. Those can be combined with an ash chamber or worn alongside one. The table shows the rest of the range for Passaic buyers.
Rather than repeat the price table on every city page, we keep one for New Jersey: New Jersey costs. What each service includes is on the services page.

Local rules worth knowing before you order
Dividing a pet's ashes is entirely legal and very common. Most pieces take less than a teaspoon, so the bigger decision is what happens to the rest. Here's what New Jersey allows for burial and scattering, and a reminder that if you plan to send ashes to a maker, the postal service's own rules apply on top of anything local.
Not sure which office covers Passaic? The New Jersey local government directory is the official list.
The New Jersey page sets out who oversees pet cremation and what the state says about burial and scattering. Passaic's own bylaws can sit on top of that, so ask before you dig.
Your order, one step at a time
- List everyone who might want something, including people who haven't asked yet but were close to your pet.
- Ask each person three things: whether they'd prefer a necklace, a ring or a keyring; what metal sits well on their skin; and if they want ashes inside, fur, or just a print.
- Work out how far the ashes go. Once you know the number of pieces, the sharing planner works out how to divide them.
- Order the set from one maker to keep the finish, the chains and the engraving consistent, and check if there's a different price for a set.
- Fill every piece in one sitting, so the urn is opened a single time and sealed up properly when you're done.
- Post far-away pieces with tracking, each in its own little box alongside a care card and a few written words.
Sharing the memory with family
Passaic is home to many faith communities, and customs surrounding death vary a great deal from block to block. Some traditions hold strong views on cremation, and some families want a quiet prayer or blessing spoken for an animal. If faith matters to how you remember a pet, bring it up with the provider during the first call so any requests can be respected, including timing.

Questions people ask
Does the Passaic climate change what I should do first?
Only the timing. In July, with highs near 85°F, cool the body and book collection the same day. In January and February, when lows sit below freezing, a home burial may have to wait for a thaw, so cremation with ashes returned keeps your options open.
Roughly how many pets die in Passaic each year?
Our estimate is around 2,200. It comes from Passaic's population (about 71,337), the average household size, the share of homes with a dog or cat (about 26,500 households here) and the average lifespan. It is arithmetic, not a count, so read it as a rough floor.
Will I have to travel to Newark to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Newark (roughly 9 miles from Passaic) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Why does the Passaic page quote a human cremation rate?
Because it is the best local signal we have. NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) reports about 56.5%[5] of New Jersey residents are cremated. There is no official pet equivalent, and inventing one would be worse than quoting a real, clearly labelled number.
How much of my pet's ashes does a diamond need?
Far more than a pendant. One US lab asks for about 100 g of ashes, roughly half a cup[9], and a Swiss lab needs at least 150 g of ashes or 5 g of fur[10]. Cremated remains contain very little carbon, which is why labs need so much. Ask whether unused ash is returned before you send anything.
Is cremation jewelry safe for children to wear?
For younger children, a piece with a sealed chamber and a breakaway cord is safer than a long chain, and a glass bead or a charm kept in a special box may be better still. Older children often love wearing a small pendant. Whatever you choose, make sure the screw is sealed with adhesive.
