The sandy river-bottom soil around Bixby drains faster than the upland clay a few miles away, which is kinder to a garden marker, but summer sun and spring hail still punish anything left outdoors. Pick a slab of native sandstone or granite with engraved letters and settle it low among ground covers. A living memorial, maybe a crape myrtle or young oak, grows alongside your memories.
Some Bixby families sprinkle a bit of the ashes by the Arkansas River, where they spent many summer evenings together, once they know it's permitted on that stretch of bank. Others hold on to all of it at home and pick out small keepsakes for each family member. Ask your provider for extra containers at the start if you plan to share.
If you live outside Bixby on a farm or a rural road, mail and parcel pickup can be less predictable, so plan around it. Have the maker ship pieces to a post office box or a workplace if deliveries tend to go astray, and choose tracked, signature services both ways. A memorial piece left on a porch in the rain is a worry nobody needs.
About 32,766 people live in Bixby, which makes it the 12th-largest of the 26 Oklahoma communities we cover. Some of the providers who serve Bixby are based about 16 miles away in Tulsa, the nearest larger centre, so collection times reflect that drive.
Nearby, we also have local pages for Jenks (6 miles), Broken Arrow (9 miles, a larger centre) and Sapulpa (14 miles), which can help if your vet or the provider you prefer is based there.

How Oklahoma feels about cremation, and what that means for jewelry
With a cremation share near 58.6%[5] in Oklahoma, memorial jewelry is available, if not in every shop window. Crematory counters and online makers carry the widest ranges. A useful test for any local jeweler is to ask which adhesive they use on the thread; a confident, specific answer is a good sign they've done this before.
The Oklahoma percentage above is from NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) and refers to human funerals. Treat it as context for Bixby, not as a count of pets.
Bixby weather, water and your memorial piece
Bixby's range, from about 28°F in January to about 94°F in July, is an argument for two pieces. Some people wear a sealed ring or a glass bead in summer and switch to a pendant under their layers in winter, when rings slip. Both can come from one small portion of ashes.
If you'll scatter or bury the remaining ashes in Bixby, the weather tends to set the date: frozen ground in January, February and December, heavy heat in June, July and August. Spring and autumn are gentler for gathering outdoors. The jewelry doesn't have to wait for that, though; fill a pendant now and hold the ceremony when the season allows.

Budgeting for a pendant, ring or glass piece
Memorial diamonds have the widest price range of anything on this page. Some labs advertise stones for as little as $750–$995[6], while a larger lab charges $3,499[7] for 0.25 carat and $15,000 for a full carat[8], roughly $14,000 to $15,000 per carat at any size[9]. For most Bixby families, a silver or glass piece does the same emotional job for a fraction of that.

Mailing, dividing and scattering: the rules in Oklahoma
Wearing ashes is a private choice, and Oklahoma asks for no permit or form to keep a portion in a pendant or ring. The questions that do carry rules come afterwards: where the remaining ashes may be scattered or buried, and how a portion may travel if your maker is elsewhere. Below is the Oklahoma side; a postal carrier's own conditions sit alongside it.
Oklahoma keeps an official directory of local governments; use it to reach the county or city office that covers Bixby.
For Oklahoma's rules on burying a pet at home or scattering ashes, see the Oklahoma guide. Local rules in Bixby can be stricter than the state's, especially in homeowners' associations and rentals.
A calm plan for getting the piece made
- Ask the child what feels right to them. One child will want a piece to wear, while another prefers a special object kept in a drawer or on a shelf.
- Choose sturdy and simple. A sealed glass bead, a chunky steel charm or a keyring suits small hands better than a fine chain.
- Let them make the choices they can. The shape, the color and any wording belong to the child; the filling and the sealing belong to an adult.
- Avoid anything small enough to swallow where young children are concerned, and take long cords off at bedtime.
- Keep a little ash aside for later. A teenager may want a more grown-up piece in a few years.
- Mark the first wearing together. A short, quiet moment helps a child understand what the piece means.
Small rituals that go with a memorial piece
Bixby's newer homes usually have small back yards and HOA covenants, so lots of families keep their memorial indoors: a small urn among the books, a paw cast next to family pictures, or a charm worn daily. Given space and permission, a flat stone among the day lilies, or a young redbud, can mark a beloved sunny corner outdoors instead.

Questions people ask
How many pet owners live in Bixby?
By our estimate, about 12,000 households in Bixby have at least one dog or cat, and around 1,000 are lost each year. We calculate this from the city's population of about 32,766, the average household size and national ownership and lifespan figures, so treat it as a floor rather than an exact count.
Where are the providers that serve Bixby actually based?
Some are local, and some run from Tulsa, about 16 miles away. That is normal for a town this size. What matters is the collection time they quote for Bixby and whether the drive is priced into the total, so ask both up front.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Bixby?
Usually yes. Jenks is about 6 miles away, Broken Arrow is about 9 miles away and Sapulpa is about 14 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
How do Oklahoma attitudes to cremation compare?
NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) puts the Oklahoma human cremation rate at about 58.6%[5]. We show it on the Bixby page because pet aftercare choices tend to track it: where cremation is normal for people, communal and private pet cremation are both easy to find.
Will Bixby's heat damage a resin memorial piece?
It can, over time. Resin holding fur or ashes softens and can cloud or yellow when left in a hot car, on a sunny sill or on the dashboard. Wearing it is fine; it's long periods of direct heat and UV that cause problems. Store resin pieces somewhere cool and dark, and choose glass or metal if you'll be outdoors a lot.
Why does my memorial ring feel loose in winter?
Cold shrinks fingers, and in Bixby's freezing months a ring that fit in summer can slip off, especially inside gloves. Measure your size at room temperature late in the day before ordering a sealed ring, and consider a ring guard or a slightly snug fit if you'll wear it outdoors. Losing a sealed ash ring is much harder to put right than losing a pendant.
