Pet ash jewelry near Laramie: costs and choices
By our estimate, about 12,000 households in Laramie share their home with a dog or cat, and roughly 990 of those pets die each year. A small wearable piece is one of the quieter ways people there keep them close.

How Laramie owners get a memorial piece made
Many Laramie residents are students or early-career faculty who expect to move, so it pays to pick memorials that travel: a small urn, an inked pawprint card, or a ring or pendant sealing in a little ash. If you rent, a keepsake you can pack is easier than a garden marker. Families rooted on the plains may prefer a stone set near the house.
Wyoming's human cremation rate is about 79%, and taking ashes to a place with meaning is a widely shared idea here. Some Laramie families divide a pet's ashes, keeping part at home and scattering part on private land or carrying a small amount on a hike. Tell the provider before cremation if you'd like several containers, and ask whether small vessels come sealed for shipping to relatives.
Living in or near Laramie often means mail-in makers are the practical choice for anything custom: glass beads, rings, paw print engraving or a memorial diamond. Before you send anything, ask the maker exactly how to pack the ashes, which service to use and how they'll confirm arrival. A good maker will send written instructions and often a prepaid kit.
About 32,284 people live in Laramie, which makes it the 4th-largest of the 10 Wyoming communities we cover.
For a second opinion on price, Cheyenne (43 miles, a larger centre), Fort Collins (57 miles, a larger centre) and Windsor (68 miles) are close enough that their providers cover Laramie routinely. Two written quotes tell you more than any price list.
Our estimate
12,000
How many dog- or cat-owning households Laramie has (estimate)
How we calculated this
32,284 ÷ 2.5 = 12,914 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 12,000. Multi-pet homes count once.
Our estimate

How we calculated this
12,000 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 990 a year. A floor, not a ceiling.

What local customs mean for a memorial piece
Where roughly 78.5%[5] of the population of Wyoming ends up cremated, many homes already have an urn on a shelf, sometimes more than one. That familiarity means a pet's ashes don't feel unusual in the house, and jewelry becomes a way to take a little of them out into the day. Some people wear a piece for a relative and another for a pet on the same chain.
For the Wyoming figure we rely on NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). Read it as a picture of local custom around death and remembrance in Laramie rather than as pet data.
Wearing ash jewelry through Laramie's seasons
Dry winter air in Laramie brings static, and static makes fine ashes cling to funnels, spoons and fingers. If you're filling a pendant at home during January, February, March, April, October, November and December, work over a sheet of paper in a room without a fan or open window, and wipe the funnel with a slightly damp cloth before you start. It helps the ash slide instead of sticking.
Road salt and slush in Laramie splash onto boots, cuffs and gloves, and silver near a wrist picks it up. Memorial bracelets and cuffs deserve a wipe with a damp cloth after a slushy day in January, February, March, April, October, November and December, followed by a dry one. Pendants worn under a coat escape most of it.

What pet cremation jewelry costs for Laramie families
Memorial diamonds have the widest price range of anything on this page. Some labs advertise stones for as little as $750–$995[6], while a larger lab charges $3,499[7] for 0.25 carat and $15,000 for a full carat[8], roughly $14,000 to $15,000 per carat at any size[9]. For most Laramie families, a silver or glass piece does the same emotional job for a fraction of that.
Rather than repeat the price table on every city page, we keep one for Wyoming: Wyoming costs. What each service includes is on the services page.

Mailing, dividing and scattering: the rules in Wyoming
Pet ashes are handled very differently from human remains in most places, Wyoming included. There's no register, no permit to divide them and no limit on how many pieces you make. Rules only return when ashes leave your home, whether onto public land, into water or into the mail. Here's what applies locally.

From ashes to pendant in Laramie: the steps
- Take fur now, from somewhere hidden. Snip a little from the chest or beneath the collar and store it in a named envelope; that clipping keeps resin pieces, and some diamonds, possible later.
- Make a print on a calm day. An engraver needs a crisp image; a pet-safe stamp pad, or a pressing in salt dough, provides one, and failing that, photograph the paw pad against something light-colored.
- Tell your vet what you'd like. Ask them to note individual cremation with ashes returned and a teaspoon bagged separately, so nobody has to ask you on the hardest day.
- Browse without buying. Save two or three pieces you like and check chamber size and metal, but hold off on anything sealed or engraved with dates.
- Talk to the family quietly. Find out who would want a piece, so the portion you request is big enough for everyone.
- Keep it all in one folder. Fur, prints, the maker's details and the vet's notes together mean the order takes minutes when the time comes.
Remembering your pet, in Laramie and beyond
Outdoor memorials at this altitude face strong UV, hail, wind and long freezes. Granite and bronze endure; flimsy resin and painted pine tend to fade or split within a few seasons. Setting a sapling above a compostable urn works best in early summer here, when the ground has thawed; hardy natives such as chokecherry or aspen stand a better chance at 7,000 feet than ornamental nursery trees.

Questions people ask
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Laramie?
Usually yes. Cheyenne is about 43 miles away, Fort Collins is about 57 miles away and Windsor is about 68 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Does the Laramie climate change what I should do first?
Only the timing. In July, with highs near 81°F, cool the body and book collection the same day. In January, February, March, April, October, November and December, when lows sit below freezing, a home burial may have to wait for a thaw, so cremation with ashes returned keeps your options open.
How do Wyoming attitudes to cremation compare?
NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) puts the Wyoming human cremation rate at about 78.5%[5]. We show it on the Laramie page because pet aftercare choices tend to track it: where cremation is normal for people, communal and private pet cremation are both easy to find.
Roughly how many pets die in Laramie each year?
Our estimate is around 990. It comes from Laramie's population (about 32,284), the average household size, the share of homes with a dog or cat (about 12,000 households here) and the average lifespan. It is arithmetic, not a count, so read it as a rough floor.
Can I wear cremation jewelry in the shower?
Better not, for most pieces. Hot water, soap and shampoo can weaken adhesive over time and leave a film in engraving. Solid glass and memorial diamonds cope, but clasps and chains still wear. Take the piece off, put it in the same small dish every time and put it back on once you're dry, so it never gets left on a basin edge.
What if my memorial pendant breaks or I lose it?
If it breaks, stop wearing it and put it in a small sealed bag straight away so no ash is lost. A jeweler can often replace a bail or clasp without opening the chamber. For peace of mind, keep a little spare ash in the urn so a replacement can be filled, and ask whether your home insurance covers jewelry.
