Cremation is the norm in Canada, at about 81.1%[1] of people. Where it's this common, people often keep a small share of ashes and pass the rest on, to be scattered, buried or kept by another relative. Jewelry fits neatly into that habit. Many families here plan the split from the start: a pinch for each pendant, a little for scattering and the rest in the urn.

Is cremation common in Canada?

Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Montreal follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.

Better not, for most pieces. Hot water, soap and shampoo can weaken adhesive over time and leave a film in engraving. Solid glass and memorial diamonds cope, but clasps and chains still wear. Take the piece off, put it in the same small dish every time and put it back on once you're dry, so it never gets left on a basin edge.
Can I buy a pendant overseas and have it filled in Montreal?
Yes, and it's often the simplest route. Order the piece empty so no ashes cross a border, then fill it yourself with the kit or have a local jeweler do it. Check the metal, chamber size and type of closure in the listing, and budget for shipping and any import charges on top of the price shown.
