Gangnam, Seoul
Finding pet cremation jewelry in Gangnam
Korean pet funerals often end with a choice of memorial: an urn placed in a pet columbarium, ashes kept at home, or ashes turned into small, glossy memorial beads, sometimes called memorial stones, that sit in a dish or jar. Others choose jewelry with a trace of ash or a framed paw print. In a Gangnam apartment, compact memorials that fit a shelf or display cabinet are by far the most practical.
Many pet funeral facilities around Seoul include a columbarium with glass-fronted niches where families place an urn with photos and small objects. Families visit on anniversaries and holidays, much as they would for relatives. If you want that, ask about fees and how long a niche is held. If you would rather keep ashes at home, a compact urn or keepsake works well.
Big metros like Gangnam tend to have at least one glass studio or hot shop that runs classes and takes private commissions, and some of them make memorial beads and pendants with a little ash fused inside. It's worth asking. A local glass artist can show you how ash looks against cobalt, amber or clear glass before you commit, and you may be allowed to watch the piece being made, which some families find unexpectedly comforting.
About 561,000 people live in Gangnam, which makes it the 2nd-largest of the 2 Seoul communities we cover.
If you want to compare providers, look at Seoul (5 miles, a larger centre), Incheon (18 miles, a larger centre) and Daejeon (82 miles, a larger centre). Distance matters because pickup fees and the time until the ashes come back both grow with the drive.

How South Korea feels about cremation, and what that means for jewelry
Cremation is the norm in South Korea, at about 92.43%[1] of people. Where it's this common, people often keep a small share of ashes and pass the rest on, to be scattered, buried or kept by another relative. Jewelry fits neatly into that habit. Many families here plan the split from the start: a pinch for each pendant, a little for scattering and the rest in the urn.
The South Korea figure comes from Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023). It describes people, not pets, so read it as a sign of local attitudes rather than a pet statistic.
How the local climate affects fit, seals and finish
If you're mailing ashes from Gangnam to a maker, weather mostly affects how long the parcel takes. Send early in the week, use tracking and a signature, and ask the maker to confirm arrival. The ashes themselves aren't harmed by heat or cold; only resin pieces coming back need to avoid long hot waits.

What you'll likely pay, from steel to diamond
Pet funeral packages in Gangnam often include a small keepsake, so check before buying jewelry separately. For comparison, individual cremation of a pet under 5 kg costs JPY 22,000[5] at one Tokyo memorial park, and a witnessed cremation for a 20 to 30 kg dog JPY 60,500[6]. Ask your provider exactly what the package returns: all the ashes, a filled pendant or only a certificate.

Before you divide the ashes: Seoul basics
There are very few rules about what you do with a pet's ashes. Keeping them at home, dividing them between family members and sealing a pinch in a pendant are all yours to decide. Where rules do come in is scattering the rest, burying them and sending them by post, which is why it's worth knowing the basics for Seoul before you decide what happens to the ashes that don't go into jewelry.
What to do first, and what can wait
- Call your vet or an aftercare provider first. Collection, and when it happens, is what they'll explain; the jewelry can be thought about afterwards.
- If you can, keep a lock of fur. A resin piece needs only a small cutting, taken beneath the chin or from the ruff before your pet is collected and tucked into a paper envelope.
- Press a paw into something soft if you have modelling clay or washable ink to hand. Skip it if it feels like too much; the vet or crematory may take one.
- Say when you book that you want ashes back, plus a small separate portion for jewelry.
- Give yourself a few weeks. Deciding is harder while you're in shock, and a piece picked out a month from now will mean just as much.
- When you're ready, compare two routes: a jeweler near Gangnam for a same-day fill, or a specialist studio for a custom design.
More ways to keep your pet in daily life
Many Korean families mark Chuseok and Seollal with ancestral rites, and some extend a similar care to a pet: a photo on a shelf with a small offering of a favorite treat, or a visit to the columbarium over the holiday. Others prefer something modern and discreet, like memorial beads in a glass jar or a slim pendant worn to work. Neither is more respectful. Choose what fits the way your family remembers.

Questions people ask
Is cremation common in South Korea?
For people, yes: about 92.43%[1] of South Korea deaths end in cremation, according to Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Gangnam follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
Which nearby towns can I compare with Gangnam?
The closest communities we cover are Seoul (about 5 miles), Incheon (about 18 miles) and Daejeon (about 82 miles). Providers based in those places often serve Gangnam too. Ask each one for a written total that includes collection, so the distance is priced in.
Can I send my pet's ashes by post from Gangnam?
Often yes within the country, but rules differ by postal service and many restrict sending ashes abroad. Check the current rules with the national post or a courier before you pack anything, and ask the maker how they want it sent. If sending feels risky, a self-fill pendant filled at home or by a local jeweler avoids mailing ashes at all.
Do I need the cremation certificate to order ash jewelry?
Usually not for a pendant you fill yourself or have filled locally. Some mail-in makers and most memorial-diamond labs ask for it, or for a signed form, to confirm what they're receiving and whose ashes they are. Keep it with the urn; it's also useful if you ever carry ashes on a flight or across a border.
What if my memorial pendant breaks or I lose it?
If it breaks, stop wearing it and put it in a small sealed bag straight away so no ash is lost. A jeweler can often replace a bail or clasp without opening the chamber. For peace of mind, keep a little spare ash in the urn so a replacement can be filled, and ask whether your home insurance covers jewelry.
How do I fill a cremation pendant at home?
Work over a sheet of paper on a clear table. Unscrew the chamber, use the small funnel or straw from the kit to add a pinch of ash, tap gently to settle it, then add a drop of the supplied adhesive to the thread and screw it closed. Wipe off any excess and leave it to cure overnight before wearing.
