Stockholm, Sweden
Finding pet cremation jewelry in Stockholm
In Stockholm apartments, many owners choose a small memorial: a compact urn on a bookshelf, a candle holder with a photo, a pendant holding a trace of ashes, or a framed paw print. Swedish design favours simple, natural materials, so wood, stone and ceramic pieces are popular. Ask for prints or clippings before collection, since they must be taken before your pet leaves home.
If you are thinking of scattering ashes, many Stockholm owners think of the archipelago, the shore of a summer cottage, or a quiet spot in the forest. Choose a calm day and a place away from busy beaches and jetties. A bio urn planted with a tree at a family cottage is another option. Keeping a small portion in a keepsake before any scattering is wise.
A market the size of Stockholm also supports specialists you won't find in smaller places: jewelers who cast a piece directly from a paw-print impression, engravers who work from a nose-print photo and studios that set ash beneath a domed stone. If one of those appeals, ask for a portfolio of past memorial work rather than a general catalog, and a close-up of a finished seal.
Stockholm is home to about 975,000 people.

a pinch (at most about a teaspoon)[4]
An ashes pendant holds only a pinch of cremated remains (the retailer says at most about a teaspoon; most pendants hold far less), and most come with a small funnel fill kit.

How Sweden feels about cremation, and what that means for jewelry
Cremation accounts for around 84.69%[1] of deaths in Sweden, so the local trade is busy: crematories, funeral suppliers and jewelers all see ashes regularly. For you, that means more choice and some competition on price. It's reasonable to get two quotes for filling and sealing and to ask to see a finished memorial piece the jeweler has made.
The Sweden percentage above is from Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023) and refers to human funerals. Treat it as context for Stockholm, not as a count of pets.
Timing fittings and ceremonies around Stockholm's weather
Whatever Stockholm's weather, the biggest risks to a memorial piece are everyday ones: a chain caught on a sweater, sweat in a thread, a glass bead dropped on tile. Choose a sturdy bail and clasp, seal the screw and keep a small pouch handy for when you take it off.

What you'll likely pay, from steel to diamond
Across Europe, ashes jewelry is well known, but published pet-specific prices are scarce. As a guide, handmade silver pet-ash rings from a UK maker cost £165–£300[5], and a US retailer's stainless steel ash pendants start from $19.95[2]. Shipping ashes across borders within Europe is possible but adds paperwork, so a local maker or a self-fill piece is often easier from Stockholm.

Rules for keeping, sharing and mailing ashes in Sweden
Pet ashes are handled very differently from human remains in most places, Sweden included. There's no register, no permit to divide them and no limit on how many pieces you make. Rules only return when ashes leave your home, whether onto public land, into water or into the mail. Here's what applies locally.
Your order, one step at a time
- Look at the ashes you have. Most come back gritty and uneven, so for a tiny chamber it helps to pass them through a small sieve or flatten the larger grains gently using a spoon's back.
- Buy or commission the piece. A self-fill pendant comes within days; glass, resin and ring work run to weeks; a diamond is a matter of months.
- Fill at a calm moment. Clear the table, lay down paper, have the kit's funnel ready, and shut the window and turn off any fan.
- Seal the screw. Use the adhesive supplied, wipe any excess and leave it to cure before wearing.
- Tell the people who'll wear the others. Relatives living elsewhere can have theirs posted with tracking, along with a few lines on how to look after it.
- Keep the rest of the ashes safe. Urn, scattering or burial is a decision for another day.
Beyond the pendant: keeping your pet close
Lighting candles is part of Swedish life through the dark months, and many people light one on graves at All Saints' weekend in early November. Some Stockholm families carry the same habit into how they remember a pet, lighting a candle beside a photo, an urn or a memorial stone on an anniversary. That kind of small ritual fits a city apartment easily.

Questions people ask
Why does the Stockholm page quote a human cremation rate?
Because it is the best local signal we have. Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023) reports about 84.69%[1] of Sweden residents are cremated. There is no official pet equivalent, and inventing one would be worse than quoting a real, clearly labelled number.
What if my pet had a communal cremation and no ashes came back?
You can still have a meaningful piece. Fur you kept, a paw or nose print taken by the vet, or even a clear photo can be engraved on silver or set in resin. Ask the clinic whether they took a print before your pet left; many do as standard. If you'd like prints of another pet in future, the paw print kit chooser compares the options.
Do cremation pendants leak?
A well-made pendant with a sealed screw shouldn't. Leaks usually happen when the screw isn't glued and works loose with daily wear. Use the adhesive in the kit, or ask a Stockholm jeweler to seal it permanently. Glass and memorial diamonds have no opening at all, so they can't leak.
Can a jeweler engrave a pendant that's already filled?
Often, as long as the engraving goes on a solid surface away from the sealed thread. Laser engraving produces little heat and doesn't touch the chamber. Hand and rotary engraving put pressure on the piece, so tell the engraver it holds ashes and ask them to check the seal afterwards. Where you can, engrave first and fill second.
What metal should I choose if I have sensitive skin?
Titanium, niobium, platinum and nickel-free gold are the safest choices. Solid sterling silver suits most people but tarnishes. Surgical stainless steel is tough and inexpensive but contains some nickel, so very sensitive skin may react. If you can, try a sample from a Stockholm jeweler for a few hours before ordering a sealed piece.
Is cremation jewelry safe for children to wear?
For younger children, a piece with a sealed chamber and a breakaway cord is safer than a long chain, and a glass bead or a charm kept in a special box may be better still. Older children often love wearing a small pendant. Whatever you choose, make sure the screw is sealed with adhesive.
