Pet Cremation Jewelry in Thailand: what to know

Wearing a pet's ashes is familiar in some parts of Thailand and newer in others, often tracking how common cremation is for people. Wherever you are, the questions are practical: which material suits your skin and your life, who fills and seals the piece and how to send ashes safely if the maker isn't nearby.

Across Thailand, families choose between filling a pendant themselves, asking a local jeweler or crematory to do it, or sending a small portion to a specialist maker. The larger cities usually have more local options; smaller towns rely more on mail-in makers. Either way, most pieces need less than a teaspoon of ashes, leaving the rest for an urn, a scattering or a burial.

Cremation in Thailand and wearing a little of your pet

Cremation covers about 80.0%[1] of human deaths in Thailand, and pet owners lean the same way: in a published survey of 2,043 US dog and cat owners, 68%[2] had chosen cremation for at least one past pet. So ashes come home to many households, and a pendant is one small, portable use for a portion of them.

Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023) publishes the Thailand rate we quote. Read it as the local custom around cremation rather than as pet data.

Memorial jewelry prices Thailand buyers can check

We haven't found reliable published prices for pet cremation jewelry from makers in Thailand, so the table shows the clearest ones we could verify from US, UK and Swiss makers. Most pieces fall in the $30–$300+[3] range in US dollars (per one large retailer), with memorial diamonds far above that. Local jewelers and pet funeral providers in Thailand may offer pieces in their own packages, so ask what's included.

Pet funeral packages in Thailand often include a small keepsake, so check before buying jewelry separately. For comparison, individual cremation of a pet under 5 kg costs JPY 22,000[4] at one Tokyo memorial park, and a witnessed cremation for a 20 to 30 kg dog JPY 60,500[5]. Ask your provider exactly what the package returns: all the ashes, a filled pendant or only a certificate.

Wearing ashes is your call; the rest has rules in Thailand

There are very few rules about what you do with a pet's ashes. Keeping them at home, dividing them between family members and sealing a pinch in a pendant are all yours to decide. Where rules do come in is scattering the rest, burying them and sending them by post, which is why it's worth knowing the basics for Thailand before you decide what happens to the ashes that don't go into jewelry.

From ashes to pendant in Thailand: the steps

  1. Use a vet where it happened. A clinic on the spot can book cremation at a crematory close by and talk you through the ways the ashes can get back to you.
  2. Ask how the ashes will travel home. Tracked delivery, collection by a friend or carrying them yourself are the usual choices; each country's post sets its own conditions.
  3. Keep the cremation certificate with the container. It helps at airports and borders, and some jewelry makers ask to see it later.
  4. Leave the container closed until you're home. Taking out a portion for jewelry can wait for a calm moment in your own kitchen.
  5. Pick a maker close to home, which lets you hand a portion over in Thailand rather than putting the ashes in the post again.
  6. Read up before you fly with ashes. Our guide to traveling with ashes covers carry-on and security questions.

Beyond the pendant: keeping your pet close

For children, a memorial piece can be simpler than a pendant with ashes: a paw print keyring, a charm on a backpack or a glass marble with a little ash inside kept in a special box. It gives them something to hold and talk about. Adults can always add a filled piece for them later, once they're old enough to look after it.

Questions people ask

Can I post pet ashes to a maker from Thailand?

Postal rules differ by country, and many services restrict sending ashes abroad. Check the current rules with your national post before packing anything, and ask the maker how they want it sent. A self-fill pendant, filled at home or by a local jeweler, avoids posting ashes at all.

Do jewelers in Thailand charge to fill a pendant bought elsewhere?

Some do, some don't, and a few decline the work. Where there's a charge it's usually modest and covers the adhesive and time. Ask when you call, and ask whether they'll seal the screw permanently. In the smaller towns across Thailand, filling at home with the supplied kit is the usual alternative.

Is memorial jewelry a good gift for someone in Thailand who lost a pet?

It can be, with care. Ask someone close to them first whether they'd want to wear ashes, since some people find the idea hard. A print charm, a name pendant or an empty self-fill piece with a note saying they can fill it when ready are gentler choices. Check dates and spellings before anything is engraved.

How long does it take to get a memorial piece made in Thailand?

A self-fill pendant can arrive within days. Glass pieces usually ship 2–8 weeks[13] after the studio receives the ashes, resin and custom rings take several weeks, and memorial diamonds take the longest, around 7–10 months[10] at one US lab. Many families start with a simple pendant and add a custom piece later.

How many communities do you cover in Thailand?

We have local pet cremation jewelry guides for 1 communities in Thailand, including Bangkok. Each covers how local jewelers and crematories tend to handle memorial pieces, what to expect on price, how the local climate affects wear and fit, and the rules for the ashes you don't put into jewelry.

Are there pet crematories in Thailand that sell jewelry?

Many do, especially in larger cities. They often keep a small range of pendants and charms at the counter and can portion a teaspoon of ashes separately when returning the rest. If yours doesn't, ask them to pack a small amount separately so you can use it with any maker.
