Golden, Colorado
Who fills and seals ash jewelry around Golden
At roughly 5,700 feet, Golden gets intense sun and dry air that fade painted surfaces quickly, along with late-spring hail and heavy wet snow. Outdoor memorials made from natural stone, metal or frost-proof ceramic last longest. A memorial tree needs a drought-tolerant species and steady watering through its first dry summer, so plan for that before choosing a tree urn.
Golden homes range from Victorian cottages downtown to newer houses on steep lots with little flat yard, so indoor memorials are common here. An urn tucked onto a bookshelf, a photo portrait or a pendant worn daily needs almost no room at all. For a garden memorial on a slope, a flat stone set among native plants usually works better than an upright marker that can tip over as the soil shifts.
Small-town families around Golden often buy several simple pieces rather than one elaborate one, so everyone who loved the pet can have something. A handful of steel or silver pendants filled at the kitchen table, with the main urn staying on the mantel, is a common and perfectly lovely way to do it. The bigger custom commission can come later if you want one.
With roughly 20,390 residents, Golden is the 32nd-largest of the 36 Colorado communities we cover. The nearest larger centre is Denver, about 12 miles (19 km) away, which is where some providers serving Golden are based.
Our pages for Wheat Ridge (6 miles), Lakewood (7 miles, a larger centre) and Arvada (8 miles, a larger centre) describe the same choices from those towns' point of view, and the providers overlap, so a quote from one often covers Golden as well.
Our estimate
7,500
Golden: dog- or cat-owning households, our estimate
How we calculated this
20,390 ÷ 2.5 = 8,156 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 7,500. Multi-pet homes count once.
Our estimate
630
Estimated dog and cat losses in Golden each year
How we calculated this
7,500 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 630 a year. Treat it as a minimum.
53%[1]
53% of US households own a dog, which is about 71 million households.
12.69 years[2]
US dogs have an average life expectancy at birth of 12.69 years.
39%[3]
39% of US households own a cat, which is about 53 million households.
11.18 years[4]
US cats seen at Banfield hospitals have an average life expectancy at birth of 11.18 years.

What local customs mean for a memorial piece
Cremation covers about 77.4%[5] of human deaths in Colorado, and pet owners lean the same way: in a published survey of 2,043 US dog and cat owners, 68%[6] had chosen cremation for at least one past pet. So ashes come home to many households, and a pendant is one small, portable use for a portion of them.
The Colorado figure comes from NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). It describes people, not pets, so read it as a sign of local attitudes rather than a pet statistic.
Heat, humidity and cold: caring for your piece in Golden
Golden sees average lows below freezing in January, February, March, November and December, and cold shrinks fingers. A ring that fits in summer can slip off inside a glove in December, when lows average about 17°F. If you're ordering an ash ring, measure your finger at room temperature at the end of the day, and consider a slightly snug fit or a ring guard for winter. A lost sealed ring is much harder to replace than a pendant.
Road salt and slush in Golden splash onto boots, cuffs and gloves, and silver near a wrist picks it up. Memorial bracelets and cuffs deserve a wipe with a damp cloth after a slushy day in January, February, March, November and December, followed by a dry one. Pendants worn under a coat escape most of it.

What pet cremation jewelry costs for Golden families
Memorial diamonds have the widest price range of anything on this page. Some labs advertise stones for as little as $750–$995[7], while a larger lab charges $3,499[8] for 0.25 carat and $15,000 for a full carat[9], roughly $14,000 to $15,000 per carat at any size[10]. For most Golden families, a silver or glass piece does the same emotional job for a fraction of that.

Local rules worth knowing before you order
If you rent or share a building in Colorado, a pendant raises no issues at all, but burying the rest of the ashes in a shared garden might. Landlords, homeowners' associations and park authorities can set conditions of their own. The notes below give Colorado's general position; check with whoever controls the land before scattering or burying what's left.
The official Colorado local government directory lists every county and city office, which is the quickest way to find who to ask in Golden.
The rules that apply across Colorado (home burial, scattering and who oversees pet cremation) are summarized on our Colorado page. Golden may add its own conditions, so check with the city or county before digging.
A simple order checklist
- List everyone who might want something, and don't forget those who were close to your pet but haven't said anything.
- Ask each person three things: whether they'd prefer a necklace, a ring or a keyring; what metal sits well on their skin; and if they want ashes inside, fur, or just a print.
- Work out how far the ashes go. Once you know the number of pieces, the sharing planner works out how to divide them.
- Order the set from one maker to keep the finish, the chains and the engraving consistent, and check if there's a different price for a set.
- Fill every piece in one sitting, so the urn is opened a single time and sealed up properly when you're done.
- Post far-away pieces with tracking, each in its own little box alongside a care card and a few written words.
Other ways to remember your pet in Golden
Lookout Mountain, the Table Mountains and Clear Creek give Golden families obvious places to feel close to a pet, and some want to scatter ashes on a favorite trail. Those lands come with scattering policies, so contact the managing agency first. A common middle path is to release a pinch on the trail and bring the rest back to a mantel urn or pendant.
run the numbers with the free planning tools, browse in-depth guides or recent articles, The services page is the place to compare what is included, or see what other families chose in the poll results. If you live between Golden and Thornton, Lakewood, Aurora and Fort Collins, either page applies. Every other community in Colorado, and all of the United States, is listed too.

Questions people ask
Will I have to travel to Denver to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Denver (roughly 12 miles from Golden) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
How many pet owners live in Golden?
By our estimate, about 7,500 households in Golden have at least one dog or cat, and around 630 are lost each year. We calculate this from the city's population of about 20,390, the average household size and national ownership and lifespan figures, so treat it as a floor rather than an exact count.
When is the hardest time of year to arrange a burial in Golden?
January, February, March, November and December: average lows are below freezing then, and frozen ground makes a home grave slow or impossible until it thaws. The other pressure point is July, when highs around 88°F mean a body needs cooling and collecting quickly.
Why does the Golden page quote a human cremation rate?
Because it is the best local signal we have. NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) reports about 77.4%[5] of Colorado residents are cremated. There is no official pet equivalent, and inventing one would be worse than quoting a real, clearly labelled number.
What if my pet had a communal cremation and no ashes came back?
You can still have a meaningful piece. Fur you kept, a paw or nose print taken by the vet, or even a clear photo can be engraved on silver or set in resin. Ask the clinic whether they took a print before your pet left; many do as standard. If you'd like prints of another pet in future, the paw print kit chooser compares the options.
Do cremation pendants leak?
A well-made pendant with a sealed screw shouldn't. Leaks usually happen when the screw isn't glued and works loose with daily wear. Use the adhesive in the kit, or ask a Golden jeweler to seal it permanently. Glass and memorial diamonds have no opening at all, so they can't leak.
