Cremation jewelry for pets in El Paso, Texas
By our estimate, about 250,000 households in El Paso share their home with a dog or cat, and roughly 21,000 of those pets die each year. A small wearable piece is one of the quieter ways people there keep them close.

Where El Paso families get memorial jewelry made
The Franklin Mountains, the Rio Grande bosque and desert trails on the west side are places many El Pasoans shared with their pets. State park land has its own rules on scattering ashes, so check first. If you'd rather have something permanent at home, a desert-willow tree over a bio urn or a slab of local rock engraved with a name suits the landscape.
El Paso families often honor the dead during Día de los Muertos, building ofrendas with photos, marigolds, candles and favorite foods, and many now include pets. A framed portrait, a small urn, a paw print impression or a keepsake pendant all fit naturally on an altar. If you would like your pet on the ofrenda this November, order engraved items well in advance.
Many El Paso veterinary practices work with more than one crematory, and those businesses differ in what they include: some return ashes with a free fur clipping and ink print, others charge for each. Ask the practice which keepsakes come as standard. A free ink print can become an engraved charm later, with no charge for the artwork.
El Paso is home to about 683,012 people, the 6th-largest of the 325 Texas communities we cover.
If you want to compare providers, look at Sunland Park (8 miles), Socorro (16 miles) and Horizon City (18 miles). Distance matters because pickup fees and the time until the ashes come back both grow with the drive.
Our estimate
250,000
Estimated dog- or cat-owning households in El Paso
How we calculated this
683,012 ÷ 2.5 = 273,205 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 250,000. Multi-pet homes count once.
Our estimate
21,000
El Paso families who lose a dog or cat each year (estimate)
How we calculated this
250,000 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 21,000 a year. A floor, not a ceiling.

Cremation in Texas and wearing a little of your pet
Cremation sits at about 55.7%[5] for people in Texas. If you grew up somewhere burial was the norm, wearing ashes may feel new, and there's no need to rush into it. Wear an empty pendant for a week first and notice whether it becomes part of your day or feels like a weight. Then decide whether to fill it.
We take the Texas rate from NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). It is a human statistic; there is no equivalent pet figure for El Paso, and we would rather show a real number than invent one.
El Paso weather, water and your memorial piece
Sweat is the quiet enemy of a screw-top pendant. In the hotter months in El Paso, especially May, June, July, August and September, salt and moisture on skin can work their way into the thread over time. Make sure the screw is sealed with the adhesive supplied, wipe the pendant with a soft dry cloth after a hot day and check the closure every few weeks. It's a two-second habit that avoids a lost pinch of ashes.
In El Paso's hottest stretch, when June averages about 97°F, people wear lighter clothes and the pendant rests on bare skin. That collects more moisture than a piece under a shirt, so a smooth-backed design without crevices is easier to keep clean. Titanium and glass cope with sweat better than plated brass.

How much to budget for a memorial piece
Prints and fur are the inexpensive part if you plan early. By our estimate, paw-print add-ons at US crematories have a median price of about $32[6], ranging from $10 to $76, and a fur clipping can cost as little as $5[7]. Have them done before cremation in El Paso, even if the jewelry order comes months later, because they can't be made afterwards.

What Texas allows with your pet's ashes
Before you split the ashes, it helps to know what you'll do with the part that won't go into jewelry, because that's where Texas's rules come in. Scattering on land you don't own, burying in a shared garden and releasing ashes into water can each carry conditions. The piece you wear carries none.
El Paso's own guidance is published by City of El Paso Environmental Services; it covers public collection, which is separate from arranging a private cremation. To find your county or city office in Texas, start with the official Texas local government directory.
Start with the Texas rules, which cover burial, scattering and oversight for the whole state, and treat El Paso's local ordinances as a possible extra layer.
From ashes to pendant in El Paso: the steps
- Set a small portion aside. Ask the crematory to pack a teaspoon separately, or take one from the urn yourself with a clean spoon over a sheet of paper.
- Decide who the pieces are for. Before ordering, find out how many people would like one, so the pieces match and the ash is portioned to suit.
- Choose a material that fits daily life. Steel or titanium for sensitive skin, glass for no leaks, sterling for a classic look, a diamond if permanence matters most.
- Pick local filling or mail-in. A jeweler in El Paso fills and seals while you watch; a distant specialist may have more designs, but the ashes go by post.
- Get a written price. Ask the quote to spell out what's covered: fill, seal, chain, engraving and the postage back to you.
- Seal and check. Confirm adhesive has gone on the screw thread, and look it over once more after you've worn it for a week.
Other ways to remember your pet in El Paso
Intense sun and wind are hard on outdoor memorials here. Painted wood fades within a year, so choose granite, sealed ceramic or metal for anything in the yard. Indoors, keepsake boxes, jewelry holding a trace of ash and framed prints last indefinitely and travel easily for families who may move to another base or city. Clay paw impressions should be glazed or kept inside, away from the sun.

Questions people ask
Why does the El Paso page quote a human cremation rate?
Because it is the best local signal we have. NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) reports about 55.7%[5] of Texas residents are cremated. There is no official pet equivalent, and inventing one would be worse than quoting a real, clearly labelled number.
Is El Paso big enough to have several pet aftercare providers?
Probably, on the numbers. By our estimate about 250,000 El Paso households keep a dog or cat and around 21,000 lose one each year, which is enough steady demand to support more than one provider. We derive that from population (about 683,012), household size and national ownership and lifespan figures.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from El Paso?
Usually yes. Sunland Park is about 8 miles away, Socorro is about 16 miles away and Horizon City is about 18 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Does the El Paso climate change what I should do first?
Only the timing. In June, with highs near 97°F, cool the body and book collection the same day. Winters here are mild enough that burial or scattering is possible in any month.
How much ash goes into a pendant?
Very little. A typical ashes pendant holds only a pinch, about a teaspoon at most[9], and ash-in-glass pieces use only about 1/8–1/2 tsp[10] of ashes (per one urn retailer's guide). That means even a small cat leaves enough for several pieces with plenty left for an urn. Our jewelry ash capacity guide shows how many pieces one pet can fill.
My pet was cremated years ago. Can I still have jewelry made?
Yes. Cremated remains are stable mineral and don't change over time, so ashes from years ago work just as well. Open the urn over a sheet of paper, take a teaspoon with a clean spoon and seal the urn again. If the ashes are in a sealed container you'd rather not open, an El Paso jeweler or the original crematory may help.
