Keeping your pet close in American Fork: pendants, rings and glass
By our estimate, about 15,000 households in American Fork share their home with a dog or cat, and roughly 1,250 of those pets die each year. A small wearable piece is one of the quieter ways people there keep them close.

American Fork, Utah
Jewelers, glass artists and online makers near American Fork
Snow load, hard freezes and bright summer sun all take a toll on garden pieces in American Fork. Choose granite, bronze or high-fired ceramic for anything outside, and set it flat into the lawn or a bed so snow shovels and mowers pass over it. Indoors, urns, framed prints and small keepsakes stay safe from the weather and are easy to take along if you move.
American Fork's Steel Days celebration each summer recalls the town's industrial past, and some families like memorials with a forged, handmade character: a wrought-iron plaque, a welded garden marker, or a cedar box built in a home workshop. For something gentler, a framed nose or paw impression, a glass bead or a slim pendant carrying a trace of ash can sit alongside it.
If the closest jeweler is a drive away in Salt Lake City or another bigger centre, combine the visit with something else: a ring sizing, a chain repair or a trip to see family. Bring the portion of ashes in a small sealed bag inside a box, labeled with your pet's name, and ask for it to be filled and sealed while you're there.
American Fork's population is around 41,020, the 25th-largest of the 52 Utah communities we cover. Salt Lake City, roughly 27 miles off, is the closest larger centre, and a share of the providers who cover American Fork run from there.
Families in American Fork often end up using a provider from Pleasant Grove (3 miles), Highland (3 miles) and Lehi (5 miles, a larger centre). That is normal: crematories serve a radius, not a single town, and the drive is priced into collection.
Our estimate
15,000
American Fork: dog- or cat-owning households, our estimate
How we calculated this
41,020 ÷ 2.5 = 16,408 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 15,000. A household with several pets counts once.
Our estimate
1,250
dog and cat deaths per year in American Fork, our estimate
How we calculated this
15,000 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 1,250 a year. Treat it as a minimum.

How Utah feels about cremation, and what that means for jewelry
Only about 46.1%[5] of people in Utah are cremated, so burial is still the local tradition and ashes jewelry may feel new to some of your relatives. That's fine. A pendant holds only a pinch, and many people who have never thought about it find they like the idea once they see one. You may need to explain it once, gently, and then it becomes simply your piece.
We take the Utah rate from NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). It is a human statistic; there is no equivalent pet figure for American Fork, and we would rather show a real number than invent one.
American Fork weather, water and your memorial piece
American Fork's range, from about 24°F in January to about 95°F in July, is an argument for two pieces. Some people wear a sealed ring or a glass bead in summer and switch to a pendant under their layers in winter, when rings slip. Both can come from one small portion of ashes.
Big seasonal swings are tough on resin. A fur or ash resin piece that bakes in an American Fork car in summer and then sits in a cold car in winter can cloud or develop tiny cracks over the years. Keep resin pieces on your person or indoors, and let glass pendants warm up gradually after a cold day before a hot shower.

Memorial jewelry prices American Fork buyers can check
Most pet cremation jewelry in the US costs $30–$300+[6] (per one large retailer), and the table below shows where each material sits. Memorial diamonds are in a different league: a quarter-carat stone is listed at $3,499[7] by one of the larger US labs, about 27 times a typical sterling pendant[8]. If you're in American Fork and weighing a diamond against a set of silver pieces for the whole family, that ratio is worth keeping in mind.

What Utah allows with your pet's ashes
There are very few rules about what you do with a pet's ashes. Keeping them at home, dividing them between family members and sealing a pinch in a pendant are all yours to decide. Where rules do come in is scattering the rest, burying them and sending them by post, which is why it's worth knowing the basics for Utah before you decide what happens to the ashes that don't go into jewelry.
Not sure which office covers American Fork? The Utah local government directory is the official list.
The Utah page sets out who oversees pet cremation and what the state says about burial and scattering. American Fork's own bylaws can sit on top of that, so ask before you dig.
Your order, one step at a time
- Ask for keepsakes before you leave the clinic. Staff can usually clip fur and take a paw print while your pet is still there; once the body goes for cremation, that chance has passed.
- Check the cremation form says individual or private. With communal cremation no ashes come back to you, and a pendant can't be filled with ashes you don't have.
- Write a note on the form asking for about a teaspoon in its own small bag, labeled with your pet's name.
- Let the first days pass. Ashes usually come home within 3 to 14 days, by our estimate[10], and nothing about jewelry needs deciding before then.
- Start with one simple piece. A self-fill steel or silver pendant is plenty at first; custom work can follow once you know what you want to wear.
- Fill it with someone you trust beside you. Many people find the moment easier with a partner or friend at the table.
Beyond the pendant: keeping your pet close
Mount Timpanogos and the canyon walls shape the skyline in American Fork, and many families choose memorials that reflect them: a photo of the canyon in October color, or a stone engraved with the mountain's outline. An urn placed beside that photo can become a quiet corner of the house where anyone can stop for a moment on the way past.

Questions people ask
Does the American Fork climate change what I should do first?
Only the timing. In July, with highs near 95°F, cool the body and book collection the same day. In January, February, November and December, when lows sit below freezing, a home burial may have to wait for a thaw, so cremation with ashes returned keeps your options open.
Where are the providers that serve American Fork actually based?
Some are local, and some run from Salt Lake City, about 27 miles away. That is normal for a town this size. What matters is the collection time they quote for American Fork and whether the drive is priced into the total, so ask both up front.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from American Fork?
Usually yes. Pleasant Grove is about 3 miles away, Highland is about 3 miles away and Lehi is about 5 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Why does the American Fork page quote a human cremation rate?
Because it is the best local signal we have. NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) reports about 46.1%[5] of Utah residents are cremated. There is no official pet equivalent, and inventing one would be worse than quoting a real, clearly labelled number.
How much of my pet's ashes does a diamond need?
Far more than a pendant. One US lab asks for about 100 g of ashes, roughly half a cup[11], and a Swiss lab needs at least 150 g of ashes or 5 g of fur[12]. Cremated remains contain very little carbon, which is why labs need so much. Ask whether unused ash is returned before you send anything.
Can a jeweler engrave a pendant that's already filled?
Often, as long as the engraving goes on a solid surface away from the sealed thread. Laser engraving produces little heat and doesn't touch the chamber. Hand and rotary engraving put pressure on the piece, so tell the engraver it holds ashes and ask them to check the seal afterwards. Where you can, engrave first and fill second.
