Pet ash jewelry near Saitama: costs and choices

Saitama, Japan

Where Saitama families get memorial jewelry made

Spring in Saitama brings the cherry blossoms along the Minuma paddies and in Omiya Park, and autumn turns the city's parks gold. These seasons are often when families decide on a lasting memorial: a planter with a memorial stone on the balcony, a framed paw print, or jewellery holding a pinch of ashes. Because ashes cannot simply be scattered in public parks without thought, many people prefer a keepsake that stays with them.

Space is tight in most Saitama homes, so many families choose something small: a compact urn that fits on a shelf or household altar, a pendant holding a pinch of ashes, or a palm-sized memorial stone. Some people divide the bones between a keepsake at home and a portion placed in a temple's shared memorial. Tell a provider in advance if you want the bones returned whole, since in Japan the family often gathers them by hand.

A city the size of Saitama usually has everything this specialty needs within an hour's drive: independent jewelers who will fill and seal a pendant while you wait, glass studios that take commissions, and pet crematories with a shelf of ready-made keepsake pieces. The catch is choice. Two pendants that look identical online can differ a lot in how the screw is threaded and whether the maker glues it, so go and hold a few before you decide, even if you end up ordering from somewhere else.

With roughly 1,263,000 residents, Saitama is one of the Japan communities we cover.

Our pages for Tokyo (13 miles, a larger centre), Setagaya (15 miles) and Minato (15 miles) describe the same choices from those towns' point of view, and the providers overlap, so a quote from one often covers Saitama as well.

Local attitudes to keeping ashes close

In Japan, about 99.97%[1] of people are cremated, and that shapes how families think about pet ashes too. Relatives rarely question a pendant or a glass bead, and some will want one of their own. If a grandparent or a sibling was close to your pet, ask them early; it's easier to plan the portions before anything is sealed than to reopen an urn later.

Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023) is where the Japan figure comes from. It counts people; we use it because attitudes to cremating a pet in Saitama tend to follow attitudes to cremation generally.

Seasons, sweat and cold: jewelry care in Saitama

Without local climate figures for Saitama, one tip covers every season: photograph your piece and its engraving the day it arrives, front and back, in good light. If it's ever damaged or lost, a clear photo helps a jeweler repair or remake it faithfully, and it helps with an insurance claim too.

Prices by metal, glass and diamond

Pet funeral packages in Saitama often include a small keepsake, so check before buying jewelry separately. For comparison, individual cremation of a pet under 5 kg costs JPY 22,000[5] at one Tokyo memorial park, and a witnessed cremation for a 20 to 30 kg dog JPY 60,500[6]. Ask your provider exactly what the package returns: all the ashes, a filled pendant or only a certificate.

Rules for keeping, sharing and mailing ashes in Japan

Dividing a pet's ashes is entirely legal and very common. Most pieces take less than a teaspoon, so the bigger decision is what happens to the rest. Here's what Japan allows for burial and scattering, and a reminder that if you plan to send ashes to a maker, the postal service's own rules apply on top of anything local.

In Japan, keeping a small share of remains close at home is a familiar tradition, and dividing remains between family members is common. Pet funeral providers often offer small keepsake pendants as part of a package. Ask whether the ashes are returned (返骨) before booking, since some municipal routes don't return them, and whether a portion can be set aside for jewelry.

Your order, one step at a time

  1. Call your vet or an aftercare provider first. They'll explain how and when your pet is collected; jewelry is a question for later.
  2. If you can, keep a lock of fur. A resin piece needs only a small cutting, taken beneath the chin or from the ruff before your pet is collected and tucked into a paper envelope.
  3. Press a paw into something soft such as modelling clay, or use washable ink, if either is nearby. If that feels beyond you right now, leave it; the vet or crematory can often take one instead.
  4. Say when you book that you want ashes back, plus a small separate portion for jewelry.
  5. Give yourself a few weeks. Shock makes choices harder, and a pendant chosen a month later means every bit as much.
  6. When you're ready, compare two routes: a jeweler near Saitama for a same-day fill, or a specialist studio for a custom design.

Sharing the memory with family

Japanese memorial culture gives pets a place in the home altar, and Saitama is no different. Small memorial tablets with the pet's name, a photo stand, or a miniature urn kept beside family photos are common. If you would like engraving, a name tag keepsake or a paw print taken before cremation, ask for it at the first contact, because the print must be made before the body leaves your home.

Questions people ask

Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Saitama?

Usually yes. Tokyo is about 13 miles away, Setagaya is about 15 miles away and Minato is about 15 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.

Why does the Saitama page quote a human cremation rate?

Because it is the best local signal we have. Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023) reports about 99.97%[1] of Japan residents are cremated. There is no official pet equivalent, and inventing one would be worse than quoting a real, clearly labelled number.

Can I use my pet's fur instead of ashes?

Yes. Fur can't go into molten glass, but it sets well in resin, where you can still see its color. Some memorial-diamond labs can also work from fur; one Swiss lab needs about 5 g[8]. Fur has to be clipped before cremation, so if your pet is still with you, it's worth taking a little from a hidden spot now.

Can a jeweler engrave a pendant that's already filled?

Often, as long as the engraving goes on a solid surface away from the sealed thread. Laser engraving produces little heat and doesn't touch the chamber. Hand and rotary engraving put pressure on the piece, so tell the engraver it holds ashes and ask them to check the seal afterwards. Where you can, engrave first and fill second.

How do I fill a cremation pendant at home?

Work over a sheet of paper on a clear table. Unscrew the chamber, use the small funnel or straw from the kit to add a pinch of ash, tap gently to settle it, then add a drop of the supplied adhesive to the thread and screw it closed. Wipe off any excess and leave it to cure overnight before wearing.

Do cremation pendants leak?

A well-made pendant with a sealed screw shouldn't. Leaks usually happen when the screw isn't glued and works loose with daily wear. Use the adhesive in the kit, or ask a Saitama jeweler to seal it permanently. Glass and memorial diamonds have no opening at all, so they can't leak.
